Well my hatch had a bad turn tonight. 5 hatched by the time I got home and I've had a broody hen for a couple weeks so I thought I would give those to her. Even though this is her third time, she rejected them :( I retrieved most in time but I don't think one will make it. She has two bloody eyes and her backside is chewed up on the top and bottom. Cleaned is as best I could with vetericyn and newsprint. I'll see how she is tomorrow and cull if necessary. One other one has a pretty bad cut by it's eye by I think it will recover. Not sure why she didn't take to these ones. She was stealing chicks from another hen the last time she was broody...

Two more have hatched and two more pips. That leaves 31 more eggs yet to hatch(I miscounted earlier, only had 40 eggs instead of 48). Hopefully more will hatch tomorrow. Only one was from the shipped eggs...

Sounds like you have gone through more than me when it comes to hatching, but I don't even check it that much.... Ok I won't lie, I do. But only about 50 times a day.....For 20 minutes each... What have I done with my life?

No, not really. I've incubated only once before this batch. I just did a ton of research, and pretty much had a handle on what to expect well before I started. I was ready for nearly any situation, so I didn't fret over it too much. Okay, maybe a little. Okay, okay... a lot. But I still felt like I knew what I was doing. I checked air cells, and when they didn't look big enough, I let the bator run dry for a few days. It worked. I had 4 pips in the wrong spot, and assisted them when they didn't make any progress. All 4 are alive and healthy. Not bragging, just sharing my experience. This experience could have, and probably would have been much different if I hadn't prepared myself ahead of time.

Life as you knew it no longer exists. You are on the verge of becoming a hatchaholic. I can't say that you are as of yet, because you haven't artificially hatched a living, breathing chick. Once you do, you can never go back to your old life. Your will be forevermore a hatchaholic. Are you prepared to step through that door? If not, can you stop incubation and sell your incubator? These are some hard questions that you need to dig down deep inside and find the answer... before it's too late. I'll be waiting for your response...

Urgh, don't get me started on that issue..... They use other methods to enhance tail carrage in TWH as well. Which are discusting.

I thought you had gone through more than me with an incubator... Trust me, I AM a hatchaholic, I hatch eggs under broodys all the time, so I know exactly what to look for in a egg, and candling, and all that. I can't stop...Help...This website doesn't help actually, it just makes it worse....

And I fret over it a ton too... Just that now IM momma... Things are harder... I have to maintain all this stuff, and I have more responsibilities... The hens just get to develop eggs, eat, and be happy. With no effort... And broody hens just have to SIT ON THEM. Really? If I sat on them, they wouldn't be very warm, and I would smash them....
