I have a very large, good natured, RIR rooster and the following hens:What's on the menu?
-Welsummer - lays very large spotted dark brown eggs - ~6 a week
-Pearl White Leghorn - lays huge white eggs almost every day - 6 to 7 a week
-Barred rock - consistant large light brown layer - ~6 a week
-Dominique - not laying yet
-RIR - great layer - will produce pure bread RIR's - ~6 a week
-Golden Laced Wyandotte - consistent brown egg layer - ~6 a week
-Ameraucana - (currently not laying - we will probably have chicks from her in the spring - but beautiful blue eggs)
-Buff Brahma - Not laying yet
The first batch I'm hatching will be 4 of the Welsummer eggs and 4 of the White Leghorn. I want to keep it narrow so I can know what hens produce what chicks. Hopefully I'll get at least one hen from each. My hope is to get the spotted eggs from the Welsummer offspring and the production from the leghorn. Tough part with this is it will be 7 months before I know.
I'd appreciate any tips as to what I would get with the above mixes. For example - will my leghorn give me Red Sex Links? I figure I'll find out in 3 weeks either way.
