Hello friends, I have an age old question I need an answer to. My chicks are now 4wks and 7 was respectfully. I live in Massachusetts, winter is approaching fast, already had some snow, so when should I start intergrating them outside?
+1. It depends on the feather quality of the birds. If healthy and fully feathered, it should be okay to introduce them to the outdoors.I was told when they are fully feathered 5-6 weeks for most breeds if they have a dry draft free place to roost.
Nahh, that's fine, I did ask what your favorite breed was, and you answered perfect!
Yep, I do enjoy watching a rainbow of chicken breeds tumble out the coop every morning! (One day I gotta get a video!)![]()
Bantams have stolen my heart..... But they sure aren't DP in the least!
Almost as good layers as sexlinks, in the summer, but lay literally NOTHING in the winter.
Wow... I did better than I thought? Cool! Thanks!!!![]()
Yep, a video would be nice!!!![]()
Bantams can be good layers, that's for sure, and they consume a lot less feed than large fowl. I just like the way a large or jumbo egg feels, and it doesn't take many to make a good meal.![]()

Oh, it takes forever to crack enough bantam eggs for a triple batch of pancakes- so I only have 3 bantam hens. Those little shells are strong, too!
I love getting the 100 gram-ers, until I think of the poor hen that laid it.![]()

See? Poor girl!
Oh, and that blue egg is NOT bantam. That is a full size egg!
My point exactly. You could make a meal out of hummingbird eggs, but it would take a few thousand!!!![]()

Yeah, those extra large eggs aren't exactly easy on the hen... that's for sure. I noticed the large egg in the pic you posted is slightly malformed. Ouchy!!!
