Well, you should be tired. You probably stopped by Granny's house on the way to bed.I cant find what I want to show you and I am really tired, will look for abstracts later, the reason hatcheries/and why our our turners set eggs FAT END UP/upright during the incubation phase ONLY is because of increasing incubator capacity and air flow. We also know from many studies that stimulation and turning has a great effect on the embryos, the more angle and turning the better. Makes sense that horizontal hand turning stimulates and helps the embryo reach all the nutrients it needs and getting the CAM to complete the inside of the egg and maintaining a proper space for the chicks as well. I found nothing showing a difference in malpositions yet though.
AS FAR AS Hatchability, it is not affected by egg position HOWEVER, egg position in the last phase of incubation affects the duration of the hatching process, laying horizontal and touching synchronizes hatch via chick chatter and movements, although their is no difference on chick quality. Wilson did a study that tells us that maximum hatchability can be achieved with a turning frequency of 96 times per day but that 24 times per day is more practical.
So there are many factors to take into consideration. I know I just confused you more right?
