Lol- I hear you! I'm hoping for a few early birds and a weekend hatch.

Question: did any of you (Hahahaha- I'm new and even I know this group!) candle eggs at 2 days? My girls and I are dying here!

I have a hard time being positive at 7 days.
I candled at day 6 last night and had some I left in as I was not sure.
Tossed 11 non fertile out of 48

49 where I live and 36 for the low tonight.
I do hope you have air conditioning.
Benny, Do you know how much contact is needed? Close contact or if they shared a field. If wild turkeys use my pasture the chickens use, could they be getting some protection?

Thank You,
Mike
Mike, I have wild turkeys that frequent my yard. Happy to have them for that very reason. I have no idea if that is enough exposure to convey immunity, but am betting that it is so. I've toyed with the idea of finding a turkey nest in the spring, and stealing a few eggs to finish off in my bator. Of course, I assume that would be considered highly illegal! Which is why I haven't done it...

I start candling at 2 days and usually do so every day thereafter. (not every egg, every day, of course! But as soon as the house is empty = no witnesses!) I snag an egg or two and head to the bathroom with my flashlight!)

Backhoes might work a bit better. Was watching "Alaska - The Last Frontier" last night. They were digging a new hole for the outhouse. Had to build a fire & burn it all night so the backhoe could get a bite

I can just see it now, chickens running around in the yard carrying torches! It'd be sure to send your home owner's insurance up a notch or two! Not to mention, what would the neighbors think???

59/41 here

Because, sometimes you answer other peoples questions.
Thank you for the compliment. I am by far not experienced, I'm just well read/informed, and like I said I talk to Dearest Sally alot and have asked some of the same questions.

Even if I had neighbors close enough to see anything, I wouldn't give a rat's butt. When the neighbors start paying my real estate taxes they get a vote!

I know this happened with temps and humidity, but, I assume you realllly know what you're doing. That said, can this just "happen"?
