IMO there is no lack of food. It's distribution and poor management on the farm/middleman scale. We Americans are spoiled rotten. If a fruit or veggie is less than perfect, if it has a blemish, into the trash it goes. When it's possible to grow an incredible amount of food in a multiculture system that takes care of the soil, why aren't we doing that? Instead, farmers are being contracted by mega companies like Monsanto to grow the crops as they dictate, with a spray program dictated by them, with GMO seeds provided by them. Soil is stripped of all life and nutrients, more chemicals are poured on, and the practice continues. The farmers loose, and we certainly loose by being provided with food that is lacking in nutrients and contaminated with glyphosphates.
I've used it to treat red mites. Did the job. I did a total of 3 total clean outs of the coop, including spray with bleach and soap, dusted coop with permethrin and DE, treated birds once with ivermectin, and followed up a week later with a permethrin dusting. Had a few mites in the nest box the following spring. Just cleaned coop, boxes, and dusted floor of coop and boxes before putting in new bedding. Since then, I've been using citronella leaves in nest boxes, and no problems since then.
I clean with soapy water and bleach before and after each incubation. Bleach = 1:10.
