Hey everyone, this is my first time with a successful incubation and I was wondering if the chicks absorb the veins before hatching? Like all veins? Because of my tiny set up I am able to candle without lifting the top and i noticed fewer veining but there is still just a bit of veins left. Today is day 21. The egg rocked earlier today so I think it's still alive.

Hiya, doku! Yes, the chicks will draw all blood out of the veins before hatching, and if it's rocking it's still alive... or about to explode. I'm leaning towards it still being alive and moving into hatching position.

Have to cross a bridge into the next county to even find a empty lot

Field trial secretaries are accustomed to driving a reasonable distance to get quality birds. You'd have to be able to supply upwards of 100 birds per trial, and you'd need flight pens to develop strong fliers. Wouldn't happen overnight, but certainly doable

I do take notes on all the attempts. if it wasn't for happy and sweetpea I probably would have given up. They wintered over in the house as they didn't get time to acclimatize to the weather like the main flock did, which by the way they did pretty darn good with -40 temps for a couple weeks there, then we got dumped on but they still out free ranging, Picks are 3 weeks apart chicks Nov and Dec hatches 2 roos found new homes


Happy from Nov is BR roo/ white leghorn hen and already bigger than her mom since Nov. she's looking for my son that went to work lol.

Sweetpea is BR roo/BO hen from early Dec hatch the 2 little BR roos that hatched with her already went to new homes as don't need any more roosters lol
