I understand why breeders of heritage RIR are reluctant to allow someone to cross strains. Some breeders spend many years, often decades, breeding the best SOP birds. This is most times accomplished by very strict line breeding, and only when absolutely necessary, will they ever cross strains. Adding fresh blood can be a double-edged sword... it can replace bad genes and give a higher quality of bird... or it can bring out bad genes that can take 5 or more years to remove from the offspring. If I worked decades to perfect my line, I would want the line continued through the people I sold my birds to. Of course, a dollar is a dollar when it comes to selling chickens, but with true breeders of heritage birds, it's often more about pride than money.
