Busy day, and busy day tomorrow (gotta finish that coop, as my Sweetie - the Naked neck in my avatar - just laid her first egg at 20 weeks). I'm giving up on catching up - hope I didn't miss too much chicken-related stuff.

Anyhow, just wanted to report that after a day resting, I set the shipped eggs in the incubator this evening - upright (fat end up), no turning. Temp is good (99.5), humidity at 40%. I read the shipped egg section but could I get some additional advice on how to decide to start turning after 24-36 hours, vs. incubating upright the whole time? There's been advice on here to "not touch the eggs, leave them alone" until day seven, but the Hatching 101 guide indicates that you should check the air cells after a day or two to decide whether to start turning them, and that turning is important even in shipped eggs (depending on the air cell), so I was a little confused. Because I'm using the Brinsea Octagon, it will be hard to turn some but not others, though I suppose I could try by hand.

Advice?

I am finding some weird comfort posting here..... Candled all the maran eggs. Feeling defeated BUT I think the stats are 1 bloodring 2 Yolkers and 39 goodens? I think. However I could be totally wrong and have no clue what I am doing!!! On the good side the humidity is down a bit. Took the plugs out. My led flashlight was less than helpful tonight. I think a burbon is in order.....lol

I'm back! If this little Call duck make it (I don't want to jinx it), should I give it Corid or something to prevent cocci? I've never done this with my chicks, but it was suggested recently, and I wondered if I should do it with this duckling.
I would ask on a duck thread, I never gave medicated to any ducks, silkies ducks or other

My thermostat comes in Wednesday and then I will have everything I need to make a coolerbator!!!

yes if they are still loose you will have to teeter totter gently and if rolling dont turn at all.
