Not caught up yet (600 posts!!!!!) but wanted to ask...

Are there Fm in there as well? Golly, I want some good dark Fm NNs...

My question is, what did you use for the color identification markings? and how soon did you apply it? (When moving to brooder?) I'd like to be able to do that so that it lasts about a week, at which time I'll band them with zip ties.

- Ant Farm

Yes, they are Kev's homozygous scaleless.

Last time we did hatch out an FM one (it is in his avitar I think - right at the back). The FM ones are very cool!

I gave him these FM NN chicks a few years ago - they came from purchased eggs that were part cemani.

As for the color, that is sharpie. It goes on as they come out of the incubator. Great for skin or down and it lasts about 2 weeks. SOOO much better than elastic leg bands for the very little ones, as the leg bands seem to fall off them.

That reminds me of marking a bunch of skunks that we were doing a study on. I put a drop of food color on their head or back or tail and used 4 colors. So that all skunks, I think there were 16 of them, had a different color or the color was in a different place. We then trapped most of them about a week later and the color had run all through the white hair. So we had black and red skunks, black and green skunks, black and blue skunks, black and yellow skunks!

@bauerdogGreat job! Good luck!

@Sally Sunshine- 29 eggs go into lockdown tomorrow!!! Start honing your master Jedi skills of distraction and calm. I don't have a styrofoam carton to put the eggs, needing to be upright, in...but I do have plastic. Would that be ok, or should I track down a dozen in foam tomorrow?

Thanks, @Jessimom for our visit today, the tip about the carton and the Brahma eggs! Good luck with your lockdown tonight! So excited!

Bator is sanitized and refilled with:

5 dozen eggs for a friend (tolbunt, mottled orps, Swedish flower hen, swedish black hen, BCM, Lav ameraucana, and a bunch of other newer breeds from GFF),
2 dozen gifted "eating eggs" from same friend (yea right like I am gona eat them)
1 dozen Costco "pasture raised" brown eggs
1dozen Vons "pasture raised" brown eggs

2 doz shipped eggs -jubilee orp and lemon cuckoo niederrheimers. Sadly have very low expectations here - one was broken and 10 have mobile air bubbles. They are in the bottom shelf but 99.99999% sure they have no chance of developing. The rest have saddle airsacs.

Dreadfull thing is that there is room for another dozen or 2 eggs in there that is not being used

May have to go TJ and get some more eggs tomorrow. At least they produced chicks unlike the "fertile eggs" from Gelsons.

ok still can't sleep lol

have 21 eggs from my flock to put in, it's a quess who the daddy is though as RIR and BR were having way to much fun when we got a few days above freezing
