trying to find some info wanted brown not black coloring though, as that would make her harder to see by arial predators as out flock all free range

Hi!

I've always wanted to try hatching my own chicks, so Dad surprised me with an incubator this spring! I am so excited to learn and attempt to use it. but I have one big question left- how many eggs do I need to hatch? This incubator has spots for 41 eggs, and I was thinking to add only a few babies this year. Is it okay to only put in a dozen eggs? Will that throw off the temperature regulation?

Thanks!

I have had better luck the fuller the incubator , you will need to set it up and make sure it's stable before adding the eggs and then watch it to see how it reacts I would think. another idea might be putting just a dry towel in extra areas

Make sure your using more than just the incubators built in temp display too, I think most are using 2-3 in addition , first hatch I did made me cry as was only using one besides and there were a lot of cold spots

Good evening everyone!
I made it back.
What did I miss?
Bennybator has 100% success so far except possible low humidity
Kathy has to do some surgery on her duck
Whites, Mike, and Chaos comparing notes on incontinence
Sally's hatcher is getting pretty crowded
CH is still not listening or understanding good advice
Yokel is still traumatized from repairing appliances at a nudist colony
:gig

There's the start of your recap Bubbles, you put a much better spin on things than I do, but it was fun (as well as difficult to keep family friendly) ;)

Congrats Benny on you creation working so well :celebrate
And Sally congrats on the hatch, but then again you are the leader of hatchaholics anonymous.
:hugs

Thanks very much!
Loko I hope that you didn't see somthing un usual in the colony, something that scared you.......Something like a non white under one year old rooster.....:lau

Please read through the notes that @Sally Sunshine has so graciously collected for our use. They can be found here.

If after reading through them you still have questions (which you will) everybody here would be happy to help you out. As far as the number of eggs that you put in it's entireley up to you. The most I've done is 16.
