Daggummit! I came in from successfully moving the Naked Neck girls into the new coop (the rooster will have to wait until I can get him tonight), and was looking at the incubator, which was steady at 98.5 and 65%. I decided to top off the distilled water in the fill cup (on the outside). Then as I was watching, the humidity began to drop. Over a number of minutes. Ambient humidity is 31%, all I can think is that the incubator got stressed (but that shouldn't happen). There is a very very faint whining noise coming from one side now.

I found a clean unused sponge (miracle) and cut into pieces, wet, and put in a little custard cup and put it in there. I tried to be quick to get it in. (Alas, things are a little crowded in there now - will this be ok?). I also put bowls of hot water around the vents to try to increase the humidity around the incubator (not sure if that'll do anything).

Back up to humidity now. Guess I'll be watching this like a hawk much more than I thought I'd have to with a "fully automatic" incubator.

Should I try to up the setting to 70%? Any benefit in that?

so condensation cant lay under them, and so air and heat can flow around them as well
