Yes to many projects, not enough hours or money.

Compared to you just about everybody's a newbie.

JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP............did that help in getting you off the ledge?
SOOOOOOO helpful!!!!

You should have called in sick today.... 3 day bug. If that doesn't work, call in dead. They can't argue death. Just saying...

I would have if I could have (or have taken personal time) - no way, too many "must be here" things going on. I will do the backwards calendar math better next time so I can have my hatches over weekends...

Eggs hatched a long time b4 humans got into the act

Oh, I don't want to DO anything, and don't think I CAN do anything. I just want to BE THERE!!!!!! (Nose pressed up against the lid and everything). Maybe I could sing to them? (I'm clearly really losing it at this point...)

We are supposed to hit the 80's today, but the wind is horrible. Even worse then yesterday. We are losing branches from our VERY tall trees. We are getting more of the 60 MPH gusts than the 25 to 40 MPH winds....

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 PM PST this afternoon.[/COLOR]

  • Winds: Northeast winds between 25 and 40 mph with gusts to between 60 mph will persist into the early afternoon. Advisory level wind gusts will likely continue through early Tuesday afternoon.

I will take these winds over the snow that others are getting.

Stay safe, warm and dry everyone!!
High winds here in the San Antonio area as well today. I tried to pick up any "blowables" this morning before work - it really freaks the chickens out when a big empty bedding bag comes flying at them (as you might imagine).

Ur! Howdy!

That sounds fantastic!

So nerve wracking! And these were supposed to be the EASY ones! (My own eggs). Hatch of the Horrible Air Cells (shipped eggs) is 9 days behind.

Cheep, cheep, cheep!!!!!!!!

Are those marks the air cells? You're giving me hope - a few of mine looked like that with no draw down...

Part of why I'm being a bit of a freakazoid right now...
So I placed him in a box with shavings and placed food and water in front of him (he is eating and drinking happily) and have a heat lamp with the lowest wattage I have. He can move to get away from the heat. Does this work?
Let him rest and keep it quiet around him (no loud noises). Hopefully he will bounce back if he's eating and drinking. I was stunned at how quickly Dumbledore got better after seeming catatonic after the dog attack.

I just finished a sausage/egg sandwich; the egg was fertile. I feel so guilty...not hungry, though
Folks are squeamish about eating fertile eggs?! All my eggs are fertile - heck, I'd have nothing to eat!!!!!!

(They're yummy, too!)

Just 5 more hours, and I can head home.... I need to get a IncubatorCam.

Good. Do not try to force feed or force water him until he is warmed up. If he were mine, I would place him in a box on towels with a heating pad set to low under the towels. Heat is key in saving the critically I'll and those in shock.

If he's eating and drinking it sounds like he'll be fine.

My current ones are not really heritage buy they are not production either. unfortunately, they have all been exposed to ms now so I think they will be sold to people who just want eggs and not to breed.
Sorry, theres only 2 types of reds. Production and Heritage. You have what they call Production Reds.

I know this is answered somewhere in this thread but cant seem to find it. But I am getting 40 quail eggs (shipped) and was wondering how long they need to sit after I get them and if I should sit in turner but not turnnon for a few days.

Hard to see much candling them.
I would set them all immediately and in the turner.
As long as they weren't oozing.
I would already have my bator running for 36 hours prior.

When I looked at the game cam photos this morning, I had to do a double take! It's 60 degrees out and the picture looks like we got snow! Then I realized all that white is a white peacock walking by the camera. That's his tail.! :gig
That's funny! -Kathy

@JessimomFrom what I understand once birds are exposed they remain carriers for life. They can also have relapses in times of high stress. Morbidity rate 10%. I lost one of 22. If I kept them it is not illegal to sell them but it goes with them and anything I ever bring in will be exposed. There is a medicine I can treat all chicks I hatch elsewhere in an incubator to help the incoming. I could sell eggs as only a very small amount risk having it.
The problem is according to the AG guy for MO is that 70-90% of backyard flocks have it and just don't know it. Thus, I could get rid of all mine and still get it right back from rodents, wild birds, bringing it form elsewhere if biosecurity is not good enough or birds from someone who does not know they have it like before.
I could also not let mine brood and sell any of those chicks because they would get it.
I'm so undecided on the best course since I want to be able to breed and sell. Any opinions?
