I haven't caught up, obviously...take it from someone who had to cull a chick I helped get out. She didn't zip because something was wrong with her. I wish I had let her die naturally, rather than help her. You're doing great!
That's the way I look at. And they are never as healthy when you help them out. There's a reason you had to help them out!

Good luck!!!!

This has got to be the cutest thing EVER!

Number seven just emerged. It also proved why you need to put marbles inside any water dishes. It just did a face plant into the dish, which is completely filled with a sponge and washcloth. My first hatch, I lost my very first chick due to drowning.
That's what kept me awake in my first hatch - there was some water in the sponge cup, and I couldn't sleep worrying they would drown...

Morning all

Yep, thanks so much - I think my migraine was triggered in part by not getting enough sleep during the pipping and prepping for the hatch. Next time I'll remember - if you go to sleep, you'll wake up to chicks!!!

:hugs Can't stay long I woke up a little late this morning. Candled the 8 eggs last night and it looks like one of them will not be hatching for sure and another had a crack on the pointy end of the egg(not sure how I missed that...) but is still developing normally. Also set 33 more eggs last night...

Burn a candle for a few minutes, then, dip your finger in the melted wax and smear a thin layer across the crack. I actually hatched one I had given a significant crack to. You'll need to keep a close eye on her during hatch but, sealing the crack protects them from bacteria. Here she is today- our beautiful Bielefelder girl, Kirby
