So you need to calibrate the unit too? So now what if the eggs are already in? OH goodness
I pretty much ignore the unit - since I"ve never figured out how to calibrate the box. I have separate thermometer/hygrometers - I have lots. I just had 2 that I pulled out of my hatching incubator and am calibrating them again. I had masking tape on them with the discrepancy number (one was off 20%, the other 15%), and they had goten soggy.

16 days, 21 hours, and 21 minutes in!
I realized I won't be able to be home tomorrow until day 18 is done, is it OK if I lock them down a hour into day 19 instead?

I give them the hotest powder that I can fined! I use a brand that we call it " Soudania" and it is one of the hottest! I dont know what is Scobil rate but it is high! I dont mean to the freash fruit, but to the drynd ground ones- Paprika!
It's funny, I always dry quite a few peppers. Basically every bedroom door in my house has coat hangers full of peppers dangling at all times. We have a coffee grinder that I use to keep a fresh supply of dried pepper flakes available. I'll see if I can sneak some of that into their feed.

Are you incubating it with your dads eggs and your 30 Silkie eggs?

Before when I had both goose and chicken eggs incubating together I just made sure that the humidity was kept up at 45%. Not sure if that was ideal as not all geese made it to hatch (but lots did).

Quote: oh Yes!! they are the worst!! Calibrate your extra ! I always had three in each until I knew which I could rely on!

Here are some suggestion from some of the experienced hatchers, please read that the accuracy of the product is important! some can be plus or minus 4 degrees!! you cant have that when incubating you need it one degree or less is better!!!

And still we have chickens for millennia!

do you know what the average hatch rate is per hen? find out and come back and tell us! I already know, oh, and I am not talking about hens that get babied either.

It is in between 35%-45%, it ofcores depend on the breed, and outer Physical Features, but this selection have a purpose To select the fittest! !
See my point Benny dear? We strive for much higher hatch rates than a hen and we know from experience and research what is best.

take a candle and make sure they are not drawing down tonight love, you have all LF in there correct? I would hate to tell you lock down 19 and then you are having draw down and too much before you get to them.... Your job is to keep an eye on the air cells. Think outside the box, just because the basics tell us to candle at days 7 14 18 doesnt mean you shouldnt keep a closer eye on them. simply by pulling one or two for a second candle.

you have a still air bator? what have temps ranged at?
