Good Morning @Sally Sunshine
. Update on my staggered hatch:
Locked down 7 eggs yesterday in the new coolerbator hatcher. Wish I would have had more time to tinker with it but temps are stable and humidity is sitting at 65%. We'll see how it does. Due to hatch 2/25.
The other 32 are due 3/3.
Good morning everyone! On 4 hours of sleep but I figured now is the only time I can keep up with you people! Sorry for being MIA- after the death virus swept through our house, claiming a final score of 6/8 ears infected, 4/4 sinus infections and 3/4 bronchitis with 1/4 pneumonia, we got a stomach bug.
Somewhere in there, one BCM chick passed away and I had to begin a valiant effort to save 5 more showing symptoms. So far, so good.
With all hatched chicks doing great, one "customer" who had bought a Greenfire extra Bielefelder, put it outside in his coop (in a box with a lamp) and it died
.
... He seemed confused as to how that could have happened. Oy.
I'm sorry I have not been able to post- it's so hard to catch up and reply anything relevant with a T minus 3 hour delayed start (plus work, kids...and, oh yeah- animals!). I've ordered all my eggs for the HAL- but, I might have to set a little early on the 5th...@Sally Sunshine , am I "allowed" to set when you all do and pretend I'm an East Coaster? We are leaving to go out of town that morning.
Lastly, I have 18 in my bator on day 15. For _____s and giggles, @Jessimom have me some silkie eggs she was to scramble for the flock, along with 6 Buff Brahma eggs she had leftover. Talk about a size difference!!! Being so green, I figured I could use the practice, and set them the day my last one left the incubator (after cleaning, of course!). I've had trouble with humidity but took some pics of air cells...and some strange looking freak show going on in the brahma egg. Here are the photos:
@TJChickens - while we did find the mountain lion photos amazing, I am so sorry for what's going on down there. I hope you're having better luck!
I'm sure after writing this lengthy post I lost footing on being "caught up"... Getting my coffee- be right back!
it was up and down. it was really hard to keep the temp consistent. it ranged from 95 to 111 but not for very long for either i've been keeping a log book and the longest they've been left alone is from 1am to 7am leaving it at a reasonable temp when i went to bed.
They're good! The little one finally suckled a bottle last night instead of chewing the nipple. And he finished all three yesterday, instead of only half. It only too a week! :/ He will only take a bottle from my lap; being a boer/nubian cross I see no problems with this in the future.
awwww yer babies!!!!! so cute!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!!! that is awesome!!! you better let them alone now and keep that thing closed!! no sticky stuck chicks sweetness!!!
(__)? morning, I went to feed this morning and check the egg box, Found a crushed egg shell was paper thin, this is the 1st I have found that way the other are hard like normal, is this a normal thing or should I look into diet, right now using 15% layer crumbles, birds are 4 and a half months, just started laying

I'm fair to partly cloudy...I fell against the wall yesterday, trying to do something dumb while I was cleaning the stove pipe; left arm's ouchy. Other than that, I might actually live
