That would be an interesting breeding program.

I think that is how I will do it when I have the space. Makes it easier to weed out unwanted genes. Though I would have more hens per roo and probably more than three pens.

I wondered about the hens/rooster ratio myself

I read about spiral breeding and it seemed simple. Daughters stay with their mom's and each year the best son from each pen replaces the rooster of the next pen over. You need 3 pens, 3 roos, and 3 hens per roo. Then you have a pen to grow out your boys and girls.

You start by rotating the original roos, and swap them out for better roos as they become availabe.
