There was this one time when my pet chimp swallowed my dog's squeaky chew toy, and couldn't pass it. He kept trying to hide, but he was easy to find. Getting it out wasn't pretty... I can tell you.

Ever follow your Labrador around for 3 days?

Good morninig to all of you !! EYS

The spring is here! My Avocado tree began flowering.

I have an avocado tree in a pot. Climate is right, but the tree is a bit unhappy. I need to repot it and find the "right spot" in my yard (sun vs shade). Congrats on your new buds on your tree!

In other news, I'm apparently going to have TONS of loquats on on big old tree this year. Time to pull out those loquat jam and loquat BBQ sauce recipes out...
I have had legbar for some time now, I am so sick of hearing Reese Reese lmao I started with Greenfire imports, and added from mdmwlf reese line and added back with more greenfire. I will never tell anyone what LINES my birds come from, because after I purchased them and bred them they are now my lines because and I also look at every egg or chick I buy in the same way, the original breeders have no control over what anyone breeds and culls or if they cull for cash like most have done with the legbar. I must admit, it takes a long time to get the flock you want, and the legbar looks are well disputed. The new REESE line look of GFF is so different than many of the UK legbar too. the colors cream legbar gold all that stuff is so debated over its annoying. The chicks have gone from $45. day old pullet to nothing in no time and even then I thought the price was nuts and I charged much cheaper. Everyone has legbar at this point, When purchasing birds, its important to not look at the name of the lines the bird comes from, most people have no clue about breeding quality flocks, and most times its for money, you need to look at the parent flock and see the quality your buying from, and know that you will need to make culls, and many of them. I cant tell you how many brahma legbar spanish projects, and serama we have eaten or sold already.
See, I told you Sally would have good stuff to say.

Quote: Just in case you didn't know - Marek's vaccine does not guarantee protection against Mareks, because the vaccine strain (turkey strain, as I recall) is somewhat different than the multiple chicken strains, so the protection is imperfect. I have lost one Marek's vaccinated bird to what I am fairly certain is Mareks, I have another vaccinated bird with ocular Mareks that now seems to be on her way out, becoming thin (Jenny), and I am desperately collecting eggs from the third in case she's next. These are my Cream Legbars - when originally imported, some of them were VERY susceptible. I may have gotten some that shared this. (I am going t see if I can breed for resistance ion their chicks. If that generation dies, I'm giving up on them for my yard.) Interestingly, the unvaccinated rooster (from a breeder) is fine so far.

We have feral peafowl in our neighborhood - they don't belong to anyone, and are the descendants of folks who had them decades ago. We see this sort of stuff all the time. Our neighborhood (an old one) is why the adjacent (slightly less old) neighborhood has a SPECIFIC rule AGAINST having peafowl.

Quote: Not quite. I'm just running out of Ideas on where to look.
You know, when this started, I was thinking two things. One - I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, because it happens to me and it is miserable... Two - that when this happens, I end up just telling myself it's a great excuse to clean and organize. Sometimes I find what I'm looking for, sometimes not, but at least I accomplished something.

Like that - see, you're slowly cleaning out your purse!

Sally, I NEEEEEEEED some of these eggs from you to hatch. Maybe next year? (As if I need more chickens...)

I had THE WORST day today. Not because anything specifically bad happened. But I had a LOT of things that I needed to do, and all were sort of urgent, and I sort of hyperventilated a lot this morning from being so freaking overwhelmed. I had that "crawling out of my skin" feeling all day long, and SO many things to do, and so many people coming at me with new crises on top of the old ones. Not that this is all that different than other times at work for me, or any different than other folks' work, but for some reason, I was NOT coping well with it AT ALL today. And since I had a number of evaluations to do, I had to be personable and supportive all day long despite this. I got out of there as fast as I could.

Soooooooo... I sat on the low roost in my Naked Neck coop this evening and cuddled my sweet girls. Sweetie actually knows her name and comes when called. I actually spent all evening (in between chicken chores) just walking around the yard, saying hi and watching the chickens in the different pens.

So, maybe chicken math is sort of bad, but I PROMISE you, I think I'd need a lot of medication if I didn't have this many chickens. They make me so happy...
