Thanks for sharing that info, dheltzel. What are your views on just the Rees line? I ask because I am toying with the idea of getting some from GFF, but have heard good and bad about this line. Some say the sexlink and egg color can be off with these birds. Do you think you would be happy with just the Rees line if you didn't already have the others?
PS: I found another source that claims their birds carry the genes of all the strains that GFF has used... including the Jill Rees birds. While their birds are slightly cheaper, the shipping is $55, which eats up any savings.
I love the ones I got from GFF. I don't know if I got lucky and got a good batch, or if some of the inferior qualities others are attributing to them are due to getting impure stock from other sources. I have a flock of about 2 dozen of the older line legbars and those will be joining our laying flock this fall when the younger JR pullets start to lay, in other words, I'm switching over completely. By this time next year I plan to only offer the JR line and expect to be selling them in large quantities to local backyard keepers for about $10 per pullet. Last spring I bought 8 pairs of JR chicks and it was the best purchase I made all year.
