For those of you who have tried nipples with chicks, do you use horizontal or vertical, and is it hard to get them to figure it out? How do you do it?
Horizontal. All of my chicks figured it out on their own. The shiny nipples and their natural curiousity work hand in hand. Might want to use a conventional water dispenser for the first week so they get big and strong enough to operate the nipples...

No it is not a BT (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis :thumbsup it is our!) BT is usually used in protecting leafy plant, that when the insect eats the leaf, or the stem the crystal in the BT disintegrate the insect digestive tract.
With this Beatle that its larvae borrows in the growth center of the palm tree you cant go deep sufficiently.
I use a combined treatment that use 3 products, one that keels in touch, 2 that kill when eaten, one of them is systemic when is entered to the growth center. I have doing something good because my tree is the only Canarien palm in a radius of 3 km that is not infected! Here are trying to fined a treatment that use Nematodes, I am hopping!

Glad its working for you. beautiful tree, hopefully your treatments will continue to be successful. We had bag worms here a couple years ago and they took out a lot of cypress trees.

4 times a year FOREVER!

Is it time consuming to apply the treatment or can it be done fairly easily?

It takes me 1-2 hours once every 3 months, I have used a telescopic pole, that I have used to color my house, and this apparatus give the possibility to drench the growing center of the palm, which is located 0.5-1 m beneath the starting point of the palm leaf ( this S_ B love to eat the heart of palms! )

That's not to bad. Is there nothing else that can be done about this beetle?
