Hi everyone, egg mystery solved. I am getting extremely forgetful.... I guess a week or so ago, I found someone up in Oregon that sells Salmon Favorelle eggs. It was after I found out that my sole SF that hatched was a boy. I guess I sent them money and then they sent eggs. It was right around the time I won a couple of auctions and I forgot all about these. I didn't get a tracking notice when they shipped them, and I had forgot all about them.
Funny how that happens...

Emu eggs are boring

In between turning them, I went out and played with some of my chickies today. I snapped a few pics and thought I'd share

These were all hatched in the incubator on January 1st or 7th. They make me smile

I got SUCH a late start, made progress, but didn't get the tractor done. Also took more time than expected to work on the hardware cloth part of the covering, since I'm using HW cloth scraps that I've been saving that fit specific triangular gaps, etc. Hoping to get done tomorrow. I hate this whole building under the gun thing - less fun that way. Not sure I'll be done building for a WHILE...

IM,NEVER INCUBATING again.
You can't say that...I'm sorry it spiked, but you learn from your mistakes and move on. This was just ONE egg....don't you have several more a few days away? But this one still might make it!

I can send one i just finished my second DIYbator!

@Jessimom

If you are desperate and can make it down to north county I could set the salmon favs for you.
Thanks!!

I'm good though. I actually have an empty 'bator. I don't trust it, but it seems to be ok for the first week or so. I still have about 6 empty spots in my LG, and I will probably pull the ones I suspected of being blood rings on the eggs in my Brinsea. Anything left, can go in the dreaded death bator.... I can make this work!!!

Got a little more done on the refrigerbator. The first fan I installed didn't move nearly enough air, so I installed a smaller, higher CFM fan and got the temp between the top and lower rack within 2 degrees F. This is without a thermostat, and I'm confident once the lights aren't running constantly the fan will circulate enough air to give a more uniform temp throughout the bator. I ordered one of these, which has .1F accuracy:

(this one actually comes with a 110V socket, not the universal socket pictured. $23 & free shipping on ebay.)

I also picked up a couple of 11"x11" double-strength glass panes from the building supply store, cut a hole in the door, and installed the inner viewing pane with aquarium silicone sealant. I'll give it at least 24 hours to cure before flipping it over to install the outer pane and a few fasteners:

Spring is officially here:

Awesome build!! Glad you are finding parts you can use and are making great progress!!!

BEAUTIFUL spring day photo!!

Hi everyone,

Busy day!! Didn't get everything done, but I did get all my chicks moved. Only have 10 tiny babies still inside. I've accidentally deleted paragraphs of typing, not once, not twice but 3 times. My computer keeps jumping, so alll I'll type now is that you can all imagine where my various batches of chickens are currently housed.

I hope everyone is having a nice evening!!

Yes! Yard tribbles fits perfect!! :lau

Tomorrow is day 21.. The two broody hens are getting cranky with me.. I usually can do lots with them but today they were upset I was there. Going out to block off the front of their nests so other chickens will leave them alone. 13 out of 14 eggs are fertile. Not bad!

I candled the broody eggs and only had to take out one that died earlier
I still need to candle my broodies eggs. I made it more difficult since I now have layers of silkies. Big silkies in the first section, 2 - 5 month old silkies in the next, broodies in the back. They are all settled in for the night, so maybe i'll go early in the morning.

Sorry about the one you lost! How many are still under your hen/hens?
