I came home from work one day, many moons ago, to find DW very concerned over a large snake heading for what was apparently a nest under the concrete pad for the power transformer. I caught just a glimpse of it, enough to know it was only a corn snake. I assured her that it was harmless & handy to have around for the rodents, but she was worried about it being so close to the house and the small kids she ran a day care center for, and insisted that it had to go.

It took a few days, but I eventually saw it again, with a portion of its midsection visible. I grabbed my compound hunting bow, which I had handy, hoping for a shot at a groundhog I'd been seeing, and took a shot at what I could see of the snake. I hit it, but it got out of sight under the pad. I saw it again a few days later, sporting the wound inflicted by the broadhead arrow it'd been shot with earlier, and it was not a happy camper at all. This time, I got a hay fork, intending to stab it through the head if I could. Mr. Snake raised up (think Cobra), keeping me in sight as I tried for position. Finally, I was able to connect; a lethal shot to the head when it tried to escape. As the snake relaxed prior to dying, I raised the fork to where the tail was just touching the ground, and the fork well over my head. I stand 5'8" (or did then

); that snake was 7' long if it was an inch!

Sounds about right. If it has a steady enough food source it can get real big. I'm thinking of selling mine, husband and I are thinking of trying for kids and both sets of parents want us to get rid of the snakes if we do. We decided okay, but we're buying a hand-tame bearded dragon if we do. His name will be Smaug.

Oh, and sally... Before I go, I gotta ask you one more thing about the mouse... Why the dog bowl? Why not "death by chocolate"? Cuz that's whut I'd choose. :gig

I'm sorry I also assumed you had the 110v model. Is that the one you have?
Yes, 110V. When I watched the Rush Lane tutorial for the STC1000, it looked like he was using some sort of narrow gauge wire that he just had to strip to expose the 2 end wires. I thought it came out of the STC box as he was setting up. We've got 2 old computer bodies full of wires, miscellaneous wires in the shop, and hubby has a whole drawer full of gadgets that might yield the right stuff. Also have several light duty triple tap extension cords. I was going to use one of those for the power supply for light bulbs and to plug the 12v, converter for the fan into, as Rush shows. I'm just not sure how heavy or how light they need to be. Thanks in advance. I just went out and fed birds, wiped out... may be done for the day at the rate I'm moving!

BANTI where is the Suicide Mouse Question?

Another sad mouse in the dog water bucket
Clearly a case of trespassing.

Morning all. It's not very often I wish I could embed a scent in my posts but this morning my place smells wonderful. Imagine cool crisp air after a few days rain mixed with orange blossoms and a little whiff coming from the jasmine.
All I can smell here is snow.
