The pure White Jerseys are so neat and sweet and Delawares are not so nice.. I think your mama deserves the full breed.
It's funny, I love my Delawares. They are the only ones that come running over to me. Yes, they peck at my clothing, but they let me pick them up. They are like little puppies - My tenant has a puppy that chews on everything also. It doesn't seem mean, just like they are curious (and hungry)..

We can legally only keep six more so five is going to have to do.
well I have ten times that in the brooder. I have the problem. Twelve are meat birds, but I have that many HRIR coming Sunday. After I thin roos and extra birds I still have a problem and coops to build.
I just wanted a few for eggs. :lau

My delaware hen is fine. although an escape artist.. the rooster is a good rooster for the hens but mean. He attacks all the men in this house.

I just have 2 hens, no roos. It's funny, ONLY my EE's that escape. Right now I have ten 4 month chicks (at least 1 is a rooster). sharing a fence line with my laying hens. Yesterday 1 EE hen had jumped into the teenagers coop and was being picked on. An EE teen had jumped into the big pen and those ladies were picking on it, and my EE that I call Houdini was happily wandering the yard looking for a new private place to lay her eggs.
