You aren't just asking for eggs, you're asking for people to spend their money on shipping supplies, gas to go to the post office *and* you're asking for them to pay for shipping, right? Last time I shipped eggs I think it cost close to $40.

Agreed. I'm really trying to be fair here but at this point - I'm sorry, you're not 8 years old...you're nearly an adult (legally) and I started working at 14. And I was babysitting before that even! I wish I could have sympathy at this point but I cannot due to the excuses being made. I'm sorry...I'm a step mom to a 19yr old and a newly turned 18 yr old who is still in high school. They work and do various odd jobs AND go to school and are involved in extra curricular activities. It has to do with drive and the will behind it.

I got one from my last batch im.pretty sure a Black Australorp covered a Dominique hen....

Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Is it a specific hybrid, like a Black Sex link or jus a mutt?
A black sex link is any breeding that puts a dark colored roo over a cuckoo patterned (like a Dom) or barred hen. By keeping a few hens with the correct pattern in my flock, I can produce Black sex link green egg layer chicks. One could produce red sex links just as easily in the back yard flock. For details, check out the charts on the first post of the thread: "Sex linked information".

Not only does it cost money to package and ship eggs. But after those babies hatch, there are housing and feed costs to take into account. It's not wise to be involved in the creation of life if you don't have the funds available to take care of those little lives afterwards. I think we're only hearing 1/2 of the story re: your mom not wanting you to get a job.

Here it be...

Everyone is beating me to the punch - I was just going to mention - the cost is bringing up and marinating these little ones is a LOT - and doesn't make sense if you're already on hard times because the cost of care and maintenance and even potential vet bills that could happen, etc - is probably not even helping you to break even, let alone MAKE money. It would be wiser and more productive to have a job. Everyone here that's commented is just being honest. Plain and simple.

My eggs arrived today. They were not treated very kindly by USPS. I have 9 intact eggs to set, 4 were scrambled and oozing. 3 significantly cracked, with dents, but intact membranes. Given this information, would readers try waxing and setting cracked eggs, or toss them? I attempted candling air cells, but flash light not up to the task. So, my plan is to let them rest. The oldest one was laid 3/17. Should I rest them till this evening, or should I give them till morning? A theory has been bumped around regarding shipped eggs: Keep the humidity up for the first several days to keep as much moisture in the egg as possible, to perhaps help the air cell heal back onto the shell. Then compensate for air cell size later in the hatch. Thoughts??? They are going to be incubated upright in carton. My inclination is to let them set w/o turning for 24 hours. Should I go up to 3 days, or start gentle turning right away?
awwww lg I am sorry! did you request how you wanted them collected and shipped? You are going to get reimbursement from USPS?

So I think I found the source of many worming misinformations, they're in Gail Damerow's Chicken Health Handbook. No wonder so many people keep worming their chickens these ways. Sigh...

or triple!!! OUCH!!!
Not a huge loss. They promised me work on Mondays and Thursdays, at minimum wage (about ten euro). They cut my hours in half (only Thursday work), kept me in busywork instead of doing anything useful, and the kicker is they didn't pay me for almost three months and probably wouldn't have at all if I hadn't kept asking about it. I've been sick as a dog, and all I asked was for maybe a stomach pill for my nausea so I could work, but they would send me home. This happened twice, and today I told them I had spat up due to me having a throat infection and coughing so hard (not made easier by the fact everyone there smokes and I'm very allergic). The wording (if I remember) was "go home now, and you don't have to come back". They were very insistent that I go home, so I left and I say good riddance. What they were doing was HIGHLY illegal and my husband and I are contemplating informing the tax office for an investigation.

Everyone is fine, praise the gods, but I am extremely angry and PO'd that I lost my job because i am ill. I am only ill because of the lack of proper heating, being forced to go into and out of a walk in refrigerator, and the fact that they allow other employees to smoke on the job/call the trainees idiots for not knowing how to do something they have never done before.

Surprisingly I came to check on the broody and found an empty shell and a partially wet chick under her. I am suprised that it hatched. I didn't think it could even hatch by itself. That amazed me

Chicken genetics is fascinating. @Saris these are both from a blue copper marans over Rhode island red.

Asking for people to ship you eggs is the same as asking for money.
