Good morning and happy Easter to everybody! Church is out, and I have an hour and a half to drive to go get my heritage line RIR chicks. I am excited. These should be my last additions for now unless I get a couple Sapphires. Pictures later

Having a record hatch this weekend. 191 out of the incubators so far, a few more still in there. Looks like I will break 200 easily.

What are sapphires?

Sapphires are CCL over Leghorn for super blue egg layers. Light birds usually white with a black spot or two with lots of large blue eggs. I have not had them yet. I want to breed them, and then go back to ccl to see if I can get a darker blue egg than the sky blue or sometimes almost blue grey I have heard they lay. I will likely wait and put one of my new Greenfire farms ccl over my white and brown Leghorn hens this fall to see what I get.

The older GFF CL lines laid tons of huge blue eggs. The Rees ones (Gff only have Rees available now) Laid smaller, greener eggs, hens are late starting and were poorer layers. Maybe it is inbreeding.

If I were making sapphires I would try to source some of the original lines.

I would imagine you would be a fabulous crested, tricolored mottled, and maybe frizzled bird!!
