not knowing what I was looking at, or the bird, of ead a guess but the shape/size of what I was looking at made me think kidney or liver and the creamy color on the outside looked fatty

Out of twelve eggs layed by my muscovy she has nine left.I really hope they hatch.day 17 so 18 days left.

Just guessing). They can take on quite a bit of structure and look like "tissue" when they begin to organize if it's been a little while since the bleed. Did you find any red brown staining anywhere else? (Of course, if abdomen was full of pus, you may not have been able to see...) Still don't know a lot about chickens' innards, though...
You could be right, it does look more like it cam from blood. It was also located at the bottom of her abdominal cavity. She was pretty smelly, so I didn't do a very thorough exam and could easily have missed the source of a bleed. Have more pictures, but they aren't appropriate for this thread.

Sounds distinctly unpleasant... and sounds like you got as close to cause of death as you're gonna...

Quote: Thanks for the link... I don't know enough about fatty liver disease, but maybe? I'll start a thread and post the other pictures there, then maybe you and others can comment?

Because Paula had a huge liver full of tumor, I looked this up in the differential. I think I recall that the bird usually has other signs of obesity (Paula was very thin). That's also usually how it works in people. Was your bird fatty/obese?

She was never fat, and the liver looked almost food enough to eat. She had some fat in her abdominal cavity, but not that much.

Yeah, doesn't sound like it - at a minimum the liver should be light in color, enlarged, and somewhat soft/friable.
