The dog's fault again?
No, his bladder is fine, so it must have been me!

I don't know of one. Personally, with all that I have to do, rather than nose to the grindstone I feel more like I am chasing myself in circles.

I feel the same way.

Well on the plus side I had my best hatch rate ever, despite the white leghorn. 20 hatched! And it's just day 21 so maybe more will come later, who knows. My barred rock eggs with the same roo as the white leghorn and same pen, all hatched. So it's gotta be a hen issue right?
Congratulations on that but I wouldn't necessarily blame the hen. Too small of sample size and too many reasons an egg may not hatch.

42, but one of the white leghorns internal pipped and died. So 21 to go, 9 of which are white leghorn and I don't have a lot of hope for them. But the others are bcm ee oe and all of them have had some hatch so maybe a few more will. I always wonder about the eggs that don't hatch when other eggs from the same hen do, and they are next to each other in the bator???

Well also I have a crappy bator lol
That could have something to do with it.
And being a white egg, it may lose weight differently than the brown ones.
Best to incubate all the same size/type of eggs at the same time.

What wattage do you recommend
For ceramic emitters, I usually use 150W. I have a 75 watt also. It depends on the ambient temperature, the size of the brooder and number of birds. I use two 250 watt in a large brooder outside in winter with a lot of chicks. In a small brooder in the house, 50 or 75 is sufficient.

Well, our barnyard hen Baby died today. She'd been sickly with runny poop for about five days now, keeled over sometime in the morning after feeding and was stiff and dead by the time I went to check on them again in the midday.

Husband is devastated, she was his favorite out of the flock. We had been waiting for test results from the vet and deworming tablets for this season. I'm upset about it, but things have to die ya know.

Monday there's usually a market where they sell laying hens and chicks. I'm going to pick up a chick or a few fertile eggs and hand-rear the hen so we have another Baby.
Do you have a place to send the bird for necropsy? Any others sick?
Perhaps this place could tell you where to go. Government or university labs will be much cheaper than a vet.

Ghent University is bound to have a poultry lab.

The last three nights, I have woken to my bedding being a mess. I am usually a neat sleeper. I thought it was stress. Now I am wondering if the dog isn't doing it!

I can blame him anyway.

I used to have a girlfriend do that on my waterbed.
She was nice and beautiful but I had to turn her loose.
