Haybee- likely half blue English Orpington half speckled Sussex
l LeeLee - likely half silver penciled rock half white rock
Olive -olive egger (half olive egger half barnevelder)
Lottie - likely half silver penciled rock half speckled Sussex
These are our keeper pullets so far!! I have 3 left to sex and the rest are
these two olive eggers with the same parents I think I can't sex these two long feathers but they're even so ? Maybe boys- hubs calls the sticky head one friar tuck and the other one big head hehe
and this little guy I think is either a sibling to the above gray one? Or ? I don't know he's super cute but a boy
sad.png

And I have 1 more olive egger same dad different mom but it just hatched early am and I have 2 more blacks to sex but it looks like it's what I posted here and 4 black & blue boys and 6 more black & blue girls I think that all adds up lol there are 20 total from hatch 2.
I will also keep any olive eggers from this hatch that are pullets though seeing as there aren't many and they're their first babies... I'm a dork lol. Thanks for suggesting the little spiral bands that's easiest for us and I did not know they made them THIS small!! They're very amused by them and freaking out about them!! I think we are going to look over the first batch a bit and get them a little socialized they're freaked because that brooder is up. So people peer down in and scare them

lol not sure I will comment on that one paddler I wont use anything else, not one issue with them in all these years, and have yet... knock wood to replace any of the discs either.
dang!!!! perhaps the coma was good enough for him to not feel those broken bones.

Here she is and those are the babies:)

I love blue cochin!! sweet girl!
Nothing like coming in the house for lunch hot and sweaty and getting in the pool to cool off. One of the best things about summer.

@fire370 show off my pool is green yet
Well back in from doing things. Good news it's only 90*. Bad news my broody hen died this morning. It wasn't too hot yet I think older age got to her. So I rounded up the chicks and got the brooder back together.
Peter what happened?

Just culled 4 Cemani cockerels that didn't make the cut to be additions to the breeding program. Made a nice stiff drink and I think I'm gonna jump in the pool.
are these your own or the ones you bought for breeders?

My attempt at getting the heat up in the brooder; hasn't helped much. Still can't get it out of the mid-80's,
according to the thermometer I never thought to calibrate.

Not the best picture I've ever taken. Still in the 'bator, prior to the latest two to hatch. Actually have a picture of all 5 so far, but it's disappeared somewhere.

This is the one that I couldn't find. The single black & 5 yellows; 1 w/the black spot mid-back & another w/several smaller black spots further forward, which may be discernible if blown up.

whites!!!! you go !!!! congrats!!!

The second egg hatched about 2 hours ago.
CONGRATS!!!

Thought I'd share the Christmas rope light/brooder idea again. This rope is warm to the touch and as you can see the chicks love it. I wound it on top of a piece of cardboard with a cut off box in top. Chicks are 3 days old if that and barn is 70* at night. I had to take them back from broody hen as she unfortunately died yesterday.
Such a great idea, and they do produce enough heat?

My first Bantam EE egg from backyard!

Thanks so much! @TJChickens

Can't wait to be hatching my own

CONGRATS!!!
First Peachick of the year. Sadly only one hatched and it is very needy and lonely AKA screeches whenever she is put down.

First chick out. Last pip of the three so far. Other two coming along slowly. Nine hrs since First pip.

Goodmorning everyone. Today is day 18 for me. I took weights and candled them. Their aircells are still really small and so I am hesitant to "lockdown". I have been reading that I can delay lockdown until I hear peeping. Can you take a look at a couple of the aircells and let me know what you think. They haven't grown too much. Humidity with a calibrated hygrometer is at 34% and temp is steady at 99.5. Strangely enough, Egg no. 7 has the smallest aircell and is close on weight. Its my green egg with a very thick shell.

@gbartha I am half blind, what is the average weight loss?

I had a great hatch this weekend

Shalom to you all
As the fly season begins here a simple tip that will help you to ease the infestations
Hang in the area some transparent plastic bag full with water that have inside 2or 3 coin that will reduce dramatically the numbers of flays.
If you want the scientific explanation I can write it, yes there is one!

I would like to know the reason it works. Can you ID this fly? I think it bites. I live in California. I have looked on google but can't find anything.

Shalom Benny, what type of coins (which metal). Thanks. I hope you are having a great day.

The explaintion
Fly like all insects have a composite eye and they see the world very muc different from us.
Another fact is fly are under a very hige predation by multiple predators and the main sense that they
Use to avoid predation is their vision.
When you hang this water baggs with some silvery coin the shimmering from the water and the coins seems to the fly like a big disco mirror ball!
So if they get disorientated and cause of that they become mor vulnerable to predation! So the fly away from thet place!

You can also use some okd cd! I prefer the water!

So let the fly party begin!! Youuuuuuuu
