When I moved from Boston to California at the age of 13, the first person I met at my new school talked just like me, then we met others and realized we were the ones that sounded weird.  She was from Nashua.  It took maybe 3 months for us to lose our accents.  And we worked HARD at it. After 30 years, my dad's has mellowed considerably, but my mom's accent is as strong as it ever was.

If I spend more than a few weeks back there, I start to fall back into it.  

Speech classes. Ohhh my gosh, the speech classes! it made things worse!!

 
i actually had to take speech therapy when i was little because of my accents
my mom is from Brockton, my step dad from Springfield and my dad from farm country NH
i was all sorts of confused

PA Dutch, WV.  My Boston accent, moved to North Jersey. Speech teachers from the Bronx and Brooklyn. It gets worse...

If it starts gasping though, I'd cull it. I have used the baking soda and vinegar method and it's quiet and probably the easiest on the human and chick. It's sad, but twice I have held non-thriving chicks for hours as they slowly died, and I found that I wished I had culled them. (But everyone's emotional context is different.)(Edit to add: Uncontrollable sobbing was involved the first time.)

My notes say Annie pipped at 9pm 5/9, widened pip at 7am 5/30, started zipping (sideways) at 10:40 am. I pulled half the shell off at 2pm, and when she didn't kick out, I got her all the way out 1/2 hr later. Her skin was stuck to the membrane and bled a bit, but stopped quickly with quik-stop.

I'm sorry, Banti - that's happened to me a couple times for no reason that I could identify. I'll keep pulling for your baby.

Do they teach a Bronx NY accent? Or more neutral tones? I'm sorry she isn't doing well! This little grey one is almost white EVERYWHERE except it's face, which is black.
