Hey all sorry it has been so long been a crazy busy time with lots of stress and just about everything that can go wrong has... *Knock* on wood.

So here's a paste from another thread to get the story started... Sorry about the book.

Yep! We also have to avoid barley.

Ditto dat. I ran my still air at 102, top of egg, and ran my forced air 101........ Hatch went great in the forced air, and still working on actually cleaning (and repairing) the still air properly, so I'm not using it at the moment.
I thought you wanted to run 102 at top, so it would be 99.5 internal temp?
Oh no!! Prayers for her and her family.

We make pancakes with cashew butter, eggs and applesauce.

I've seen the 102 thing here many times. I just don't agree with it for a couple reasons. First of all, everything I've read prior to this thread said the top of the eggs should be 100.5. When I measure temp in a still air LG, there's about a 1F difference between the top and middle of the egg. Different incubators vary quite a bit. Eggs will hatch if kept between 99 and 101.
Once the temp gets above that I get scared. 96F for a brief period won't kill an embryo but 104.5 will. 102 is too close to that number for my comfort, primarily because I don't trust most thermometers. If one is off by 2F and they are holding eggs at 102 - that's enough to kill the embryos.

Ideal temperatures will vary slightly between strains of birds and between incubator design. Until one has done enough hatching with incubators that hold temperature well and with a single strain of a breed, I would rather err on the cooler side.

You forgot the awful humidity

Not to mention the wild swings that give us tornadoes and ice storms (like 65° mid day with sun to 15° by dark with an ice storm), it can be beautiful though.
I forgot to mention it but there's no way I can forget it. I went out about dawn today. It was 78 and the humidity hit me like I hit a wall.

The humidity is really bad from June through August. It's really hard on birds when it is around 0F or below.

I got to get a ditch witch here so I can ruin power our to one of my out buildings...supposed to next week.
My son and one of his buddies were my ditch witch this past winter. They occasionally had some really big rocks to dig out.
I have the conduit in and the wire pulled but I haven't filled in the ditch yet.
I was the ditch witch a couple years earlier to another building. I had a lot of tree roots to get through but that system is all done except adding outlets in that complex of units.

It's always the season here
Here too but the last house up the road would lose power when no one else did. Squirrels would climb into the transformer, get fried and knock us out.

I'm good, how about you? I'm new to this site. Had 4 laying hens, one died , one turned brooder, so I got some fertilized eggs for her. Now one of the others has gone broody on my so I took two of the first ones eggs along with a fake egg for her to sit on. Now I have one lonely chicken. Should I get her a friend?
I agree with the others that you'd need a quarantine period. But I'm also thinking that if you plan on adding birds, especially a single bird, this would be a good time. Adding a single bird to an existing flock is very difficult but with the other two occupied, the lone bird would be more likely to accept a newbie and then merge into the flock when the chicks arrive.

cell phones have flash lights???? next thing you know they will have cameras and voices

That would be amazing.

Here's the border collie I've been caring for while my friend is in the hospital. She's 14 and has been a working dog her whole life. Originally sheep and then geese for about the last 7 years. She just decided to retire this spring.

Here's my wife's Pomeranian.

I try to run it monthly so it will be ready when needed without a lot of work.
We have only lost power for days a couple times in the last 10 years. Usually only a few hours.

I never NEVER take any gifts offered me in the middle of the schooling period. But AFTER the matriculation exams if the want to give me a token to remind them It is an honor for me.

And in the left it is a personal gift from 3 of them that wanted to be more personal.
I love the Benny's principals idea.

Jokes don't translate well either - because of cultural folkways and anomalies.
