I went to check my chicks that are between 6 to 12 weeks old. I found 3 or 4 like this.

I am guessing mites. Sevin? Or something like that...what's the name of the dust I need to use? I tossed one into another pen, but didn't notice the feather loss until after I let go. I need to treat ALL of my pens, correct?
I am sorry to have not responded to this post yesterday. I missed it until I saw it quoted today. It is hundreds of posts back and easily lost. I got back to it by clicking the icon next to the post header--Remember that trick!

It looks like you have either a slow feathering breed or a continental x Mediterranean breed cross. The cross produces slow feathering males. Chicks go through a final molt between 6 and 12 weeks old. If the chick is slow feathering, they will look like your chick.

To be clear, there is no evidence of lice on that chick. You see lice, they are about an 8th of an inch long. You see the eggs, they are small pearl looking and will be connected to the feather shafts.

Make sure they are getting good feed--starter\grower or flock raiser, fresh water and vitamins. Clean up the feather mess daily and be patient!

It's kind of funny because we have tons of rabbits running around the property and Monkey likes to point them out and chase them. So we are never sure if shes talking about the chicken Bunny or the regular bunny. We have some birds that have the obvious kid names. A black Australorp named Blacky and a CCL named Blackhawk because it's head feathers are darker then normal.
