Hi all. Just before leaving, I had one of Jace's pullets escape and run into the woods. I tried for the longest time to catch her, but couldn't. I planned on getting back before dark, but I got delayed. Now I can't find her and I feel terrible for leaving her....
Maybe she's okay. I had a duck vanish for 3 days once and come back unharmed....
Poultry abscesses are not like mammal abscesses, so I don't think there's any point in using a salve. Keep in mind that the underlying problem might be a respiratory infection, but it could also be a foreign body infection, like from a fox tail. Last year I found a rooster with a nasty infected eye, but no other signs of respiratory infection, so I removed the pus as best as I could and set him free. Several days later the pus was back, so I did it again, but this time I was more aggressive and manged to get this out of his choanal slit: Cause of sinus infection was the foxtail. To get it out I had to apply pressure to the area between his nostril and his eye. This is a choanal slit - Photo by BYC's Nambroth -Kathy
