Hi everyone! Thought I would you a quick update on my chick situation seeing as you all have me so much help...both of my little darlings that weren't doing so well (the one with wry neck and the one with the shell attached to its umbilical cord) are up and running around as if nothing ever happened...they are in such good form it is almost a miracle! Who would've thought something as simple as vitamins would bring them back from being so sick? Can't thank everyone enough for your advice and direction...amazing! ^_^

I have 14 BCM that gotro17 had shipped, 4 legbars (I think were also shipped), along with I think 12 of my backyard chicken eggs - these are on day 10. And I set 28???? eggs 2 days ago. It's a mix of gotro17's backyard mix eggs, and mine. I'll do an accurate count if I ever candle them.

Mine are probably not all fertile, Since we pulled the roosters several weeks ago, and the baby roos were just starting to figure out how to play with the girls when they started to crow and got pulled.. I currently have a BEAUTIFUL Salmon Favorelle and 2 black silkie roos in my basement. Waiting until I figure out what we are going to do with them.

I also have 2 broodies sitting on eggs. Not sure how far along, or how many eggs. They both should be getting close though.

When I got home early am I had one lavender orpington hatched this morning when I got up at 730 there is another lavender and a chocolate cookcoo cross. Still waiting on the other few 4 of them are 3 days behind so I should be hatching all weekend. Lol. There was only 10 surviving eggs to start with.

Not bad, only 100 posts behind. And my multi post came through all jumbled together with no identifying info.

Around midnight, last pip came out with yolk not absorbed. I put it in a bowl with a damp paper towel and this morning it's still alive, but not moving much, and it is still in the bowl. I doubt the paper towel is still damp. I don't think it will make it.

Other than that, It's another work day for me. I don't have to go in to the office, and it's not an official work day, so I have some freedom to do other things.

LOL! My chickens come if I start walking towards the coop (where the corn is) or if I'm holding something. The ducks come for The Pea Bowl.

When I free ranged mine they would come on the run when I came home from work. Had to drive careful.

LOL mine are free range too but they stay away from the vehicles for the most part.

It's not quite that simple, but if the municipal water doesn't go past your property, and the property can be built on, yeah, you can. You'll get told where to locate it, though.

In israel ALL the water consider government property and you can't collect them! Even the rain water that goes trough the gutter from your roof you aren't alowd to collect them and the gutter most end on a dirt soil that alow the water to drain to the aquifer!

I'm glad it's a bit cooler and the smoke is blowing away. Family visits are WAY more fun than chores (at least most family - I have some that chores would be better). I hope the temps stay low - you need the break!

We can't. There are special permits required. My city only issues a few each year. With the drought being so bad, we are afraid they are going to stop issuing permits. So, I had to choose between solar or dig a well. We decided to dig the well first.

We are contracting with a company that will take care of all of that for us. We reached out to them last year, they checked with our city, found out what was needed, and gave us a full analysis of what was needed. They just told us to just let them know when we were ready.

A perk test was done about 12 years ago, and at the bottom of my driveway, it was only 10 feet to the water table.

The water table is VERY high on my end of Simi. But, the bottom of my driveway is 70 feet lower than my house level. So, my house is 80 feet above the table. There is a building site near here that has stayed empty, and has had 4 different investors over the past 10 years. That site floods EVERY time it rains. Whoever builds there will need to spend millions to adjust for the high water table. On the other side of town, there are streets that people complain their gutters are never dry, the water table bubble up there.

We're digging a Non Potable well. It will mainly be used to keep our trees alive, they are starting to die off. We've had to water them, and there are I think twenty 100 year old Eucalyptus trees.

Depends on what they are, I imagine. We have a beetle that burrows into the trees, and when there is plenty of water, the tree produces sap to kill them. During a drought, they can't produce the sap. Pine trees went first. Water table has dropped. This is the dryest that I can remember.

Holding the button in will lock the head in place so that you can remove it to replace string. Without holding it down the head will just spin freely and not come off.

Thought I would you a quick update on my chick situation seeing as you all have me so much help...both of my little darlings that weren't doing so well (the one with wry neck and the one with the shell attached to its umbilical cord) are up and running around as if nothing ever happened...they are in such good form it is almost a miracle! Who would've thought something as simple as vitamins would bring them back from being so sick? Can't thank everyone enough for your advice and direction...amazing! ^_^

Sorry to hear that!! By the time you realize the tree is in trouble, there is no way to save it. After we lost 3 pines, we started watering.

Just a little bit east of you are all the trees dying in Mammoth - but those are related to the CO2 emissions from the Magma oozing up. That scares me more than the beetles do.....
I'm glad that they are doing so well. I had a 10 day old baby yesterday that was laying down on it's side, with a leg stuck out. Couldn't stand up. I took it out, forced it to drink some electrolites and vitamins. I kept it warm, and within 2 hours it was recovered. I put it back in with the little babies - took out 3 of the bigger ones, and today it's doing fine. It's amazing how effective a little TLC is!!!
