Morning Bubbles

I'll be joining you in August. Will also be using pullet eggs so we shall see how good this experiment goes. At what point are eggs no longer considered pullet eggs?

In a nutshell, I'd say when the eggs are approaching the size that is standard for their breed.
In my case that would be about 65 grams.
After a pullet lays for about 2 or 3 months, they should be approaching the size they will be as adults.

You can fudge down a bit. I've had pullet eggs as small as 40 grams. but I'd set exceptionally dark eggs that were over 55 grams.

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to dig out a scale to see how much the eggs actually weigh.

What breeds?
The SOP or some other reference should give you standard egg sizes for the breed.

Weeeeelllll.... They don't reach their full size until after the first molt.

Good point and true, but they aren't really the teeny pullet eggs earlier than that.

first molt for most breeds is the second autumn
if mine hatch very early in the year, they'll molt the first autumn but usually had barely started laying by then

eggs are almost always bigger after that and each subsequent molt
