Morning all!

I'm off to the doctor in a few minutes, but wanted to pop in before I left!

Hope everyone had a good evening/morning

I have 6 chicks out and one almost completely zipped from those due yesterday. I see no pips in 4 others. I hope I can pull them in the next couple hours and get the others turned.

Now for soapbox time. This is really important for the future of backyard and small flock poultry. There have been over 600 cases this year across the country of people contracting salmonella from handling pet poultry.
For those that allow small children to handle poultry, don't allow kissing and make sure you wash them up immediately afterward.
This goes for adults as well. Always wash hands with soap and water immediately after handling poultry or anything where poultry live.
I can't stress this one enough. It is recommended to never keep poultry in the house - including chicks and ducklings. That dust gets everywhere. They belong out in a brooder house - not a bedroom.
As someone who has fought in city after city across the area challenging city councils to allow chicken keeping, it is always an issue that is raised as to why they shouldn't be allowed. They don't understand why we don't want to buy store eggs and chicken meat.
I've had council members quote the CDC word for word on multiple occasions saying that the CDC recommends:
  • Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water right after touching live poultry or anything in the area where the birds live and roam;
  • Do not let live poultry inside the house; and
  • Do not let children younger than 5 years of age handle or touch chicks, ducklings or other live poultry without adult supervision.

I counter by saying that they say the same about dogs and cats but dogs and cats are legal.
If we continue to allow this to get out of control, the pendulum of more backyard poultry being allowed will certainly swing the other way.

Seriously, they are browsers and prefer brush, twigs, branches, small trees, and weeds to grass so yes. I will cut branches and small pop up trees to take to them.

Greetings from the PNW and Mt. Baker Wilderness Area. A few from the days hike. I am now seated on the porch enjoy the early evening while someone else here makes dinner and at home my friend is doing my chores. Ah, vacation, so sweet but way too short.

Greetings. You have the right attitude. Enjoy every second. I love mountains and awesome waterfalls.

Thanks! How is your hatch coming along? I am sorry, but I am not reading back. Have I missed anything really big?
Nothing big enough to worry about. Just relax and enjoy the trip.

We lived in New Orleans when I was little. My mother makes a REALLY good crawfish étouffée, and our family gumbo is dynamite!!!!!

(I also make a mean red beans and rice, like falling off a log.)
How marvelous!!!

I seem to have lost some of my quotes.

I always lose mine.
I think we cook foods well that we enjoy. As a small boy, I loved French toast and that's the first think I learned to cook.
It's hard to spend time in New Orleans and not become a major foodie.

The cool temoeratures! Not having to do chores or go to work. I am also enjoying time with family. Talking, eating, hiking, kayaking, playing games.
Did I mention that it is cool here? Like sixties and seventies

Are you sure you aren't missing the heat dome we're having? Hottest weather since June 2012 (when I lost a Welsummer to heat)
heat index of 106 today and 111 tomorrow

Hi Daxi!! I love your photos - it really sounds like you are having a great time! I"m glad you got the chance to take this trip! How is your knee holding up?

No progress with the city. My dad is much better at talking to people without yelling at them (my issue is I mouth off). He stopped in on Monday and the person we need to talk to wasn't there. That guy was pretty sure we won't get an extension, but told us we need to talk to the person that issued the demand. I've started the paperwork for changing my zoning. Hopefully we can get the extension long enough to change the zoning.
I've done this a long time. It is imperative to leave the emotions at the door. First of all, they're looking for a reason not to like you. You have to be so sickeningly sweet and respectful that all but the most rabid anti-chicken person will want to be your ally.

Is changing zoning easier than changing an ordinance?

Have you looked for an attorney? Some are always looking for pro bono opportunities. In most cases, all they have to do is send a letter to the city requesting an extension to show the city that you don't plan on going quietly. Or just send your own certified letter with an attorney carbon copied.

Well since everyone is still saying good morning. Good morning everyone.
What was your question about breeding? I quoted it but before I had a chance to answer, Windows updated.
