I realized, but thanksI just didn't expect it to pip this early. I thought it might pip on day 19(tomorrow) but not today.
Just because it has internally pipped doesn't mean it's going to hatch shortly. It still has to externally pip and zip. From external pip to zip should take less then 24 hrs so it could still not hatch until day 19 or 20. There is also usually at least one over achiever chick in most hatches.I realized, but thanks
Thanks. I like silkies and cochin bantams too. And like I said, I knew bantams tend to hatch early, but I just wasn't expecting this early. Plus that same little egg has been worrying me over it's air cell for the past two weeks! And I guess the fact that it's internally pipped already has me a bit on edge..Whew, thought I would do some quick catching up, then slowed down when I noticed a person needing help. Then, I noticed something else, and I have to wonder..CC, why in the world don't you have your BYC Educator Badge yet? Ey? You are very helpful. I see all of you have been helping along.
Now, I can actually help with a small comment. I agree with Chaos on the bantams usually hatching early! lol..there. I really do know a bit on hatching those bantams though, I have hatched my fair share of silkies and bantam cochins. Love the silkie.
Going to be a torcher for the next 5 days here! Out I go to water things down, I mean really make it muddy, for the chickens under the apple trees.
do u use a bareback pad? Whenever i take the munchkin out we only use the bare back pad, and she almost always goes with me
I know. I guess it just sort of startled me that it had internally pipped so early. And like I said before, this is only my second time hatching in an incubator, so I haven't had very many chicks hatch yet, and last time they all internally pipped on late day 19/day 20 and hatched day 20 and 21...Thank you for the information though.

Hopefully he heals quickly.They cleared his blockage yesterday and he will be in ICU for the next 48 hours with the cath in trying to get his bladder working again. Poor guy. I'm sure he feels better with the blockage removed and his bladder empty, but he sure isn't happy about that cath.
