A pheasant with a trash can? That's pretty impressive.

@ChickenCanoe the door is just two rails with scree holes at each end and a square piece of aluminum with a hole at the top to attach the pull string. I just don't have tools for that so I bought a kit door and opener for the second coop.

So if the egg is still in the nest with both parents, why your big concern?

You also misunderstood that I was trying to get you to hand raise it. I was just trying to help if there were no dove parents.

If this began before the weekend, the concern was that I didn't want the doves to be unhappy. The doves would have been separated while I was gone. Fortunately, they both happen to be in the coop when I left.
I was honestly teasing about the hand raising thing. I know that you would never tell me to hand raise a bird when it had a mother already. Fortunately, the information you gave me was information that I did not have. Should something ever happen, I will know where to go to find the solution. So I do honestly thank you for the link and YouTube video.

Hi everyone!

lol, i tell my daughter that they miss their families and want to go home to them
A dose of yogurt or kefir with active cultures can work as a starter too.

That's an excellent line for kids with animals in jars.

Deet burns my skin. It also isn't a solution to the problem.
I can only imagine how bad they are. We have a lot of mosquitoes here in MO. I have to keep myself covered near dusk or I'd be a pin cushion. People invite me to garden parties to keep the mosquitoes off the other guests.

I have tried several deet free repellants. The best I found is one called Mo's OBX Skeeter Beater. I bought it at Lowe's. It works for ticks, fleas and biting flies. It also relieves pain and itch from stings and sunburn. It contains Geranol, Rosemary oil, Lemongrass oil and peppermint.

morning this is an experiment I'm working on using solar to power the coop, bought the kit from harbor frght, now task is to figure out how to make it work. I'll send more pictures as I get them and the camera cooperates
Good luck. What kind of battery is that?
Solar cells are really coming down in price. I plan on putting a panel together. The tempered glass for covering the cells is still pricey.

I've been looking at DIY bat boxes and Martin houses. I'm also going to cut some brush close to the house today. A friend in New Orleans area had good luck with the electric dyna trap. I have it set up, but no luck yet. It's supposed to break the life cycle within 4-6 weeks.

The parish comes and sprays if the weather conditions are right, but that's also only a temporary fix.
The bat boxes is a good idea. New research shows that purple martins don't eat nearly the mosquitos the martin house manufacturers used to claim.
I used a mosquito magnet that runs on propane for a while. I don't think it works that well.
Here's some good info on traps.

I'm doing okay. Went through a spell but I'm doing alright now. You know.... Raising your credit score is an extremely slow process especially for a person that wants instant results all the time. 5 months and only up by 40 points... Uggghhhhhh

@lindalouly Hi!

Get a catalog cc or two. Even a $500 credit line with Fingerhut ups your credit.

That and if one has any negative credit blemishes on their report, I recommend writing the credit bureau in question and challenging each of them. What happens next is the credit bureau writes each of the companies reporting the negative. Sometimes those companies don't bother to respond. Then the blemish has to be removed from the report. That can jump start the score quickly

I have never seen a raccoon. I have seen a couple of possums. I have 3 large dogs that stay outside at night and I think they do a good job with predator control. They killed two foxes several years ago, but haven't noticed anything of late (knock on wood). Also, my entire property is enclosed and includes a foot of barbed wire at the top of the fence (I know things can still get in, but I think it helps with stray/wild animals).

Sad! All of mine were fine again this morning. I have got to stop this habit though. They are also free-ranging all day now as opposed to when I am home, since they are already out in the mornings when I go to feed/water. They sure are happy though!
Well you have a better setup than I do. I don't have an outside dog. And as I said, you live far from a city. Cities and suburbs have anywhere from 10-50 times the raccoons as rural areas. There's just more food sources for them here.
Raccoons can climb virtually anything, even a sheer wall. They are one of the few animals that can descend a tree head first.
They love being outdoors 24/7. I wish I had the means to offer that.
Mine do free range all day.
It's funny how the flocks stick to each other and rarely intermingle.

I know! We're hoping to have hives in the future, which is why I need solutions!!!! We have like 700+ kids in the summer so we can't just ignore it. The dragonflies help.
Let me just say, I feel your pain.
700 kids is a problem with that many mosquitos.
Do you use mosquito coils in buildings?
We always used them in the tropics and they work well to keep the mosquitos outdoors.

Are you doing electric fence or permanent type stuff?
I am putting field fence over my existing five wire barbed wire fence. I loop the top wire of the field fence over the t-post then add four or five clips going down. It had worked so far. Since I don't have the ability to stretch in the right way post to post pulled hard and looped over seems to work.

Good Morning @casportpony !!

ummmm I just posted it the other day a pdf let me see if its still in my trash bin

@Sally Sunshine The front half of my twelve acres is pretty flat and then is slopes down to the pond further down to the wet weather water run and then it slopes up into the woods at the back. The goats are currently in the front pasture that I call the meadow. I am buying one section of fence at time working my way around with each kid sold
