Ooooo look at the pretty toy chickens. :D
Yea As as far as a duck is concerned I like them. My one female who is laying lays pretty well.
Hard to be even when you're odd.

You're odd too, together we make an even.... So there. :tongue

Chaos for your next deer
Looks delish, I like to hang quarters in a fridge to dry age them.

Banty I'm setting 15 ancona eggs.
Woo Hoo, Ancona chickens!!!

Oh, sorry, you're probably talking ducks.

For those of you who hatch your own chickens, do you use vaccinations?

If so - where do you order your vaccines and kit to give them?

I'm... a big believer in protecting my animals if there's a benefit to doing so and there's available vaccines to help.

What do you do for your day old chicks?

I paid extra for our chicks to be vaccinated by the hatcheries when we got them... but hatching our own made me realize I hadn't thought about that, until today.
There are tons of things to vaccinate for. Marek's is probably the most common. Some now vaccinate for coccidiosis. Most vaccines are for commercial flocks where 100s of thousands of birds must cohabitate which allows viruses and bacteria to run amok.
I'm more of a natural person. I vaccinate for nothing. 60+ years off and on of chickens - no vaccines. Almost never meds of any kind.
Start with healthy stock, give huge ventilation, dry bedding, optimal nutrition, clean water, probiotics and that's all they need.

I got it unlocked!! :celebrate I just beat on the door until the bolt jiggled far enough back that I could open the door.

It makes sense! Really! I like being able to bolt myself into whatever place I'm working on. The goat coop doesn't lock from the inside, and the door is always open slightly, so I have to chase chickens out and keep goats in. The goat door is dutch, though, so if the top is open then I can lock the bottom from the outside.

@daxigait Dad was NOT happy! I am pretty sure that the egg in there is just the shell. I will have to read up on how soon the mom starts laying again. I assumed it was at least three weeks.

Lol are you holding him?

Lockdown.
4 serama, 12 bantam cochin.
The cochin were shipped and about half had saddle air sacs, so I set them all upright in a partial egg carton.

Does this sound right? I hope!
