Very good! Make a nice meal out of them! Have a wonderful weekend too!
Thanks Benny!!

Great job getting the birds done! Next time, you get to cut and stick your hands inside!
Have fun with your daughter!

Thanks MC!! No - I don't want to. I said I was ok plucking, but don't want anything else to do with them. He's ok with it. Grew up working on a farm.
One piece left to do up near the peak, plus the whole back. Picked up the felt today, as well as the siding and corner trim. Cut a bunch of brace blocks for in between the studs this morning. Getting there.
Great job!! It's really coming along!

Well only 3 lived my cat got a hold of the other 4
One of them has curled toes and one of them has splayed legs but the last one is doing good
My cat has done the same thing. Now, my dog chases the cat away. I found splayed legs easier to fix than curled toes. How are you treating the problems?

Don't know about Frisco, but around here poultry vets aren't exactly a dime a dozen; mostly Fido & Whiskers; I have one that at least knows medication; whether she'd work on one is yet to be determined, as is whether I'd give her the opportunity....highly unlikely.

We have a vet that works on chickens & he has chickens himself. He is usually pretty good. The other vet in the office saw my hen that day, though, and I don't have much confidence in her after she pronounced my hen to be terminal & then the hen recovered completely in just a few days!

I totally posted something my daughter said, on the wrong thread earlier. Ooops.

"My daughter just asked me when she grows up, if she could marry a stick bug... then goes... well, I guess I really wouldn't want to marry one, they can't do the dishes."

I survived church, plus running errands. Now I'm home.

No other eggs have pipped, and the little chick that's in there, is acting antsy. It was hopping around when I came int othe bathroom to check on it. I'm tempted to take it out and put it in the brooder. Not sure if I should, or not yet... but it's knocking all the other eggs around in there, with no signs of them hatching yet.

I didn't want to either. Then I had to. Glad I did. Nothing like I thought it would be.
Considering that a year ago, I would NEVER have done this, I think plucking is ok to start. Before this, I gave away about 60 roos. But, I finally figured that I should get SOMETHING out of it. But that is AWESOME that you went and took care of it by yourself!!! I am not sure I will be able to do the same....

I don't know what to do
For splayed legs, I took a drinking straw, cut off just enough to fit between the two feed. Get a very small rubber band, and feed it THROUGH the straw. Hook each side of the rubber band on each foot with the straw in between. They start running around immediately.
The curled toes, you can get LOTS of ideas from others - mostly they say make a boot for the foot. Also give vitamins. The first page of this thread has lots of info for both these problems.

Good luck!!!

Here is a photo of a chick with boots....

Would it work on a quail because it's so tiny

Any guesses on what my mystery chick could be now that it's getting some feathers? It is so cute, but definitely not a silver laced Wyandotte.
