you definitely don't want to let them alone with other animals... LOL but some pigs are cute... not the ones we eat, but pot bellied pigs are adorable.

Yes, potbellies are cute!

They aren't cute with blood dripping from their mouth though... My friend had 2 cows hung up in the barn, and the potbellies came over and drank from the blood pool. :sick

Chicken taquitas for dinner here.

I'm so glad it's Friday.
My wife's thrilled it's Friday.

I don't have much in the way of poisonous snakes either so I have lots of rock walls and wood piles
My place.

The way I look at it, my family and animals are the invasive species here so I try to live in harmony with the natives.

Never getting pigs, a local vet told me about a man who fell down unconscious in the pig pen...... They ate him alive.

My neighbors pigs killed and ate a chicken....
We raised pigs all the while I was growing up. My job for years was castration since my dad couldn't do it.

I thought my dad was done for once when he was catching piglets in a farrowing stall when the sow went after him.
He climbed a sheer wall as she charged him. He grew up with pigs and he knew what would happen to him if he didn't get away.

Not a fan of pot bellies. Just like I'm not a fan of bantam chickens, give me real functioning pigs - just not ferals.

I was amazed at how much they loved meat. If they encountered a dead animal in the woods, it was impossible to get them away from it.

My wife wants baby pigs but then wants them to disappear when they aren't cute any more.

@ChickenCanoe

Yes that was a Horizon box. Worked really well. They sent her with a piece of Apple which she finished along the way.
She arrived in great shape.
Too bad about the pool game.

oh yeesh!

:bun

Trying to figure out what to do for dinner. My magic fly candler arrived today, I plugged it in, and blinded myself because my kid turned it on and I didn't realize it. took about 20 minutes for my vision to return to normal after it hurt my eyes.

Chocolate cake!

How did the parents take that?
Scaring the beejesus out of nesting birds by handling their offspring.

The parents weren't around. They were playing with the flock.
The parents are not afraid of me. I am allowed to hold them too. They are tamer than my chickens. For all the places in the coop to build a nest, they chose where I am the most.

@MotorcycleChick
I probably shouldn't laugh about the turkey.... but.... ;)

Do you raise your chickens and turkies together? I thought there was extreme health risks to have both? (Or, that's what I was told when I expressed an interest in maybe having turkeys/peacocks too.)

I do raise everyone together. We have not had any reports of Black Head. I keep an eye on the turkeys though.

WOW!
You're the dove whisperer.
Obviously they feel safe with you around.

Here she is! Woke up to this this morning!
So cute, congratulations!

Quote: I hope the kids get better soon.

Morning (almost afternoon here!) everyone!

I have been so busy at work, and stewing over something I have no control over. I guess it has made me more productive to be angry. LOL.

I had lunch with my daughter at her school yesterday and the 2nd grade teacher came over and asked me (not so quietly) if I am willing to hatch chicks for the 2nd grade class again this year. (I have done it the last couple years, even though my daughter is not in the class.) Of course, I had to say yes, on the spot, in front of all those eager little faces.

My only problem is this is a NEW teacher and she has no experience, I had the other teacher trained pretty good on what to do when I wasn't available to check on them, etc.

Anyway, will be exciting! Won't be until the spring, but now it's on my calendar to look forward to. :D AND, it will give me a chance to hatch some of my own eggs again since my roosters will be mature by then for sure.
Sounds fun. Looking forward to hearing about it.

The parents were close by, but taking some time off of the nest. This blob is Kelly, the baby morning dove She is nine-days-old.
Hi Kelly!

Have to go for MRI on Tuesday on my hand and wrist. Missing another day of work tomorrow & Sunday without pay and in to do "desk duty" aka paperwork until i am cleared. Then come home to the serama I was gonna show who's comb tuned blue and lethargic. Gave him vitamins per my breeder and isolated him from other birds. Hoping it is just a vitamin deficiency and not his heart. He's eating and drinking good now but the back of his comb is still dark. But at least he made me feel useful-I got to take care of somebody and he puked on me after the vitamins just like one of my patients would lol! Kitty is home from the vet and doing well and all the other birds and pets seem happy and healthy. And the shed people called-new coop getting installed on Halloween! I'm going to separate my layers from my ornamentals or use the existing coop with run for my breeding projects (seramas still get the 3rd car part of the garage). Guess I will look at the bright side and enjoy the weekend off and hope there is no torn ligaments or tendons... PS I got a kick out of all the biting stories. We don't have kids but a little granny with dementia is good for a chomp about once a month on the ER so I feel your pain
