A friend of mine is known for her cottonpatch geese. Her husband had a bunch on their trailer he was shipping east when he brought my chickens to IL.
I think she was president or organizer of the cottonpatch geese group.

Now.
Ducks are ready for cold before chickens.

You don't drive?  May I ask why? Tell me to :duc if it is none of my business.

I love that picture. Thanks for posting.

You're supposed to be able to use paypal. A debit card or paypal account would suffice in lieu of a CC.

My camera died and it's complicated to get a pic from my phone to the computer in a timely manner. I'll watch though, so have fun and good luck to all.

Here too. The last encounter, they chewed a hole through to pop door. New ones are made of aluminum. Once they pulled the siding off of a building to gain access.

Raccoons are great swimmers, just not inside a cage in a trashcan filled with water. Or held under with a catch pole.

I have to wonder about the balance between the cost of fighting climate change and the cost of fires, drought, floods, etc..

Broodies are great. No electricity and no worries.
Try getting a couple cochins, brahmas, aseels.

Same here.

For chicks, I leave it loose but just tight enough that I can't slip it over the foot.
When they're baby chicks, you need to check ever 10-14 days. As they get older you can go longer - perhaps 3 weeks or so by the time they're a couple months.
By the time they're about 6-8 weeks, I switch to a #7 numbered leg band.

Yogurt or kefir will work for probiotics. You can mix it with feed. Pet shops may have an avian probiotic powder.

I'll teach you but you'll have to come to MO. DC/AC arc and wire welding.

I know that's how many use the term flighty but some (read that as urbanites) also assume it means they're escape artists.
I call them aloof. They're just not that into you - or anything else non-chicken.

Yes I did and I went back and edited it. Sorry. Too many multiple quotes in there.

After reading some of the struggles folks have gone through on the forum here and realizing that I had the same problems, axe, loppers etc. I though I would share how processing day has evolved for me. This may or may not work for you but it has helped take the stress out of butchering days for me. It's still not easy and after a couple hundred I still have emotions with processing. I don't think you will ever get over it. After placing bird in bag with hole cut large enough to fit chickens head in, secure to fence or post. Bailing wire wrapped twice around chickens legs and secured to back to itself will hold them in place for entire process. Weight of chicken will pull wire tighter.

Thank you! It's exactly what I was thinking.

I ordered from someplace in Virginia-rare breed mix that guaranteed 35% fertility/hatch or 50% a new bath. looks like my second batch are mostly duds too & I dont think i have any of the same breed
barnie.gif
I ordered just the chicken eggs but he had a chicken/duck/turkey combo as well. I know there is no guarantee on shipped eggs but even my bcms that came a smashed mess have hatched-7 out of the 12 that made it!!! and my incubation is even across the board so I have to wonder about the quality. I even get a 40-50% hatch rate on my shipped serama eggs and they are tough to hatch sometimes...
the shipped silkie eggs I ordered, 8 in total, 2 had no fertility. the rest got blood rings. and 2 were viable and still developing at day 12-13. We go into lock down this weekend and one of them has a saddle shaped air cell, but the chick survived so far, despite that.

So out of the 10 turkey's I ordered, only 5 out of 17 eggs hatched.... and none of his duck eggs made it. One hatched, took a breathe, and then died on him before he could help it.

So, he's got some ducks hatching next week and he's going to try to send me the difference in turkey's, in ducks.

I suppose if all 5 turkey's survive their trip, 5 isn't a bad start. lol
5 should be good for a first attempt at raising them.

#RECALL #ALERT: More than 130,000 pounds of Tyson chicken nuggets are being recalled.
Tyson recalls 130,000 pounds of chicken nuggets
Tyson Foods is voluntarily recalling more than 130,000 pounds of cooked chicken nuggets because they may contain hard plastic.

That's a drop in the Tyson bucket. Perhaps a couple weeks' production from one of their processing facilities.
Some modern facilities produce nearly 20,000 tons of poultry meat a year.
Cargill is building a facility in Russia that will supply all the McDonald's restaurants in Russia. It will produce 18,000 metric tons a year.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEEEEE hands off those eggs. Serama can in NO WAY take any assistance, they will die! any yolk or blood loss they are done! even a few drops of blood and yer gonna kill them, they just dont have much to them. Humidity up to 75 or higher and DO NOT OPEN THAT BATOR!! They only hatch with yolk if temp is too high and that is a very very high temp, and yours are hatching on time, so the only other way they hatch is assisted in some way! DONT assist them please! they are strong little boogers getting out of the shell just like quail. if they pip even mal they typically can get out. I sooooo want you to get babies, I am not yelling or mad, just scared for the babies, sit on yer hands, I too been in your spot, I been there done it, dont learn the hard way and the cost to the chicks. I gave them to you and the fans and thermostat etc so you would have the best chance you could. Make me proud and hatch them well!

That's the way I feel about all eggs. You know this already.
I remember when I was a kid, I was told that a chicken had to fight its way out of the shell on its own or it wouldn't survive. The effort makes it strong.

Yep still hot. 96*

5 chicks so far.
It was 94 a couple days less than a week ago. Today it won't make it to 70. What a relief.

My incubator is running now getting it steady and o I can't wait hope I get a great hatch again
Good luck. How many eggs will you be putting in?

I was trying to upload a pick of the new fish I got but it won't let me.if u wanna search it to see it's a black tiger Oscar.i use to have a pair of albino ones until we have them to my papa and he killed them.they where huge about 7-9 inches long
Nice fish. How did he kill them?

I might pick up some threaded rod of a smaller diameter tomorrow. I tried aluminium rod I had and it couldn't take a small radius bend.
Some mild steel square or round rod would probably be better than threaded unless you need the threads for nuts or something.

Incubator has been holding steady so far at 99.7.does anyone else use a little giant
That's great. A LG is all I've used since the first of May. I now have about 70 chicks and adolescents as a result of hatching constantly. It wasn't always easy. Lots of temp spikes that I know killed plenty of embryos.

how many troughs at the bottom do u usually fill for incubation than hatching
If the AC is running in the house (dry air), I usually fill them all and then don't add water again till lockdown when I fill them all again. If AC isn't running, I only fill 1 or 2 till the end. I always fill them all on day 19.
However, I weigh the eggs and keep track of weight loss. If it is on track, I don't worry about humidity again.

O I forgot to tell everyone I got two new hens today
What kind?

In my world marriage is based on love, corporation and respect not on dominance and control, sorry.
In a perfect world that is so true.

My condolences to your country and the world at large on the loss of Shimon Peres.
I heard it a couple hours ago.
