I've ordered from Meyer Hatchery, but they are close so I could pick them up rather than have them go through the mail.I'm looking into ordering chicks online, I know some of you have done it already, what was your best site to check

Hi!
whats new on the pea farm?
Not much... Just hatched out the last two eggs, and I'm trying to sell a bunch of older chicks. Had a large female Muscovy duck die in a strange way, so gonna necropsy her tomorrow and see if I can find a cause.
What's new at your place? How you feeling?

I am so glad there are other parents who say, fine, just sleep on the couch then. muwahhhahaaaaa
mornin MC
wow just corn!@BantyChooks only 4/15 eggs made it to lockdown. They were two weeks old at set but only one late death. The other 10 were either clear or blood rings, which seems high for local eggs. I'm going to consider flock nutrition because the girl feeds primarily corn.
I haven't moved them to the hatcher yet because they don't seem ready. AC are pretty small, and still a lot of veins. I'm going to wait for drawdown.![]()
yes shelf / shelves, depending on length, for stability you may need two or put a rod through the middle and zip tie to prevent sagging. I had a piece of plastic laying around I used in one. make it TIGHT! so their are not any gaps for little feet to get stuck inGood morning one and all!![]()
Incubator upgrade time
My last few hatches have been extremely wet and icky, and upon looking at the shell leftovers I notice there is an off-colour spot where the egg was touching the ground, which looks like absorbed moisture. There has also been a high rate of slightly open navels, which was a sign of too high humidity if I recall right?
I've had water slosh from the bowls and drip from the papertowels on the sides to the floor, which then makes there be quite a bit of water that some eggs were sitting on- Of course, I had papertowel underneath the shelf liner, but that got waterlogged quickly.
I am wondering if this might be a part of my low lockdown-to-hatch rates, as I lose most of the embryos in that period of time.
This high loss at lockdown (up to 50%) has occurred with eggs from multiple sources- None of them shipped. I know that is "normal" for shipped.
So I've been thinking about an upgrade... A grated platform that would let spilled water fall to the bottom instead of becoming squishy, icky, and possibly harming the eggs to some extent.
I was also thinking about running tubing thru the sides to where I put the bowls of water, which would reduce the # of times I had to open the incubator, which in turn might help hatch rates.
I might be completely wrong; which wouldn't be unusual, but I thought I'd give it a try. It can't hurt and might help....
@Sally Sunshine
@DwayneNLiz I know you had a shelf in yours....
