@SuzieMareeWelcome! I missed your conversation between all I had to do and catching up. I have Charangus too. I am still trying to decide exactly what percentage of each I want. I tend to keep 1/2&1/2 or 3/4 on my cows and breed to straight Angus. What percentage do you shoot for? I like the breeding cows to be a little higher in Charolais so I never worry at calving.

@Akrnaf2 I am off to bed. I hope you feel better soon!

To all those who addressed me I was catching up and fell asleep in my chair. I will catch you after a few winks.

That's insane!

You are correct 7, I'm Eastern time zone still.

They are allowed intact livestock for 4H there? Here they can't even do intact goats.

Enjoy work!

I always enjoy work!... im a face painter!
Came home, and candled remaining eggs, none still alive :(

So looking like you've all gone to bed, but I thought I'd report back anyway....

Came home from work... (face painting if anyone would call that work?? but hey, I get paid!)
Candled and tapped remaining eggs as instructed. No movement... no cheeping...
Floated them... no movement.
:( :( :( :( :( :(

All the air cells were quite small?? I think too small?? so does that mean too much humidity on days 1-18??

I am yet to do eggtopsies...got to work up the courage too. :(
So out of 11 fertile eggs, I have 5 chicks (one sticky, but ok) and 6 who didn't make it.

on the bright side... I WILL GET GOOD SLEEP TONIGHT BECAUSE I WONT BE WORRYING!!!

Thanks so much to all the wonderful people who gave me advice. Was much appreciated. God bless you all, you are amazing!

Did you candel them at day 5-7, and day 14?
You should have monitored the air sac and veins development.

I candled at day 8 then again at day 18. It's my first attempt... still so much to learn!
I thought they looked fine at both candleings! is that even a word?? anyway. I think the main problem is the incubator, its a generic one i bought off ebay. I think the temp is even because the hatch was so staggered. So i plan to encase it in styrofoam box it came in.. to try to keep it more even..hopefully. Then I think i had the humidity to high through the first 18 days... Dont think i can trust the humidity meter (I know they have a proper name but im tired)

Hygrometer
Did you calibrated your hygrometer? Next time read Sally's the hatching 101, it will give much of useful info.
And we here, almost all of us are using our DIY bators, you should Bild one of your own!
