Here is the hog I stuck in Georgia,on my brother in laws land, about 2 months ago. Yes...I said stuck. We use knives. Here are the two bucks my husband harvested last week. We hunt here on our 24 acres. He got a huge 10 point and a very big 4 point. We usually do not take a buck less than 8 points but this boy was a biggin!! We also needed the meat. Very grateful to the Lord for His provision. I'm not posting a picture of my husband out of respect for his privacy. I didn't used to post myself but I do like to share about how God provides for my family. Thank you for your patience! Hope y'all like and if anyone else hunts,I'd love to see the harvests!!! God bless, Glory
The bucks I understand, but as far as the hog,...with nothing but a knife? You be one crazy lady, with way more guts than I'll ever have. You ever see what those tusks can do?
Yup! However,we do carry a gun for those"just in case" moments. Yes again! It's been established quite some time ago that I AM CRAZY!! Ha ha and proud! Yes I've seen the dogs get hurt. And that is why we always have a VET with us.
Looks like you've covered all your bases, then, as much as possible. I guess maybe you ain't so crazy after all :p If nothing else, it must be a real rush. I'd like to bust one of those nasty beasts myself some day, but I'll do it from a distance with a rifle. Good that you took the small-racked buck out of your gene pool, too. Hope you never need that Vet
Yes we try to. No no you were right the first time...I'm crazy!

Yes it is one heck of a rush! I hope you do. Although I believe the rush is greater when using a knife.

Well,he would have eventually grown up rack wise. They aren't born with that many! Lol jk no but he would've continued to gain points on his rack. Thats why we usually let anything less than an 8 go. So that they can get bigger racks and bigger bodies. But the 4 was big. Worth taking now. Now,if there's a buck with only one side of antlers or some obvious defect,we will eliminate that gene. Not healthy to let that continue. Do you deer hunt?
Oh, yeah, I'm a deer hunter; have been since late 60's-early 70's. Got my 1st one (and only decent buck) in 81. Hunt mostly my own place anymore, but have rights to 10,000 acres up the road about 10 miles. Generally take only 1 or 2 a year; two of us don't need more than that. We usually take a doe; tried horn soup once...didn't do a thing for me. Big-bodied as your 4 was, I figured he was an older animal & probably maxed out as far as rack goes. Y'all must grow 'em big down here.
Awesomeness!! I figured.

Yes my hub and I usually keep two for ourselves however we tend to have a lot of good friends wanting meat for their large families. We know whatever we harvest will not be wasted. We enjoy helping others. Shelters ,churches ,etc. we have hunting rights elsewhere but mostly hunt our land. I'm always thanking God for all we have. We work hard for it but still. It's a blessing!! Nothing like getting up ,making a campfire to go with a cup of yummy pumpkin spice coffee with whip cream and cinnamon on top. Before you walk out a couple hundred yards to your blind or stand on your own place. It's amazing. Never tried that. Yes I understand what you mean. Yes but not with any additives. Like the stuff the dudes on the huntin shows use! Crack racks!! Ours are all genuine.

Guys I need Help!!! I've got a hurt chick!! Y'all paying attention???

What happened?

Sorry was checking on her. Ok my hen found a way out of her pen with her chicks. One of my fat mean roosters somehow hurt one. I believe he pecked it. Now she's walking funny. Stumbling all over. Cannot keep up with mama and siblings. She extending her right leg but I've checked her all over. No puncture wounds,no blood, nothing. She's got feeling in her legs and feet and toes. She pulls them in when I gently extend them. She grips my fingers with her feet when I pick her up. I've moved them into the pen and she's actually starting to walk! A lot better, still stumbling on the pine straw but showing improvement. Any suggestions? How do I help or do I allow her to heal on her own and the problem will correct itself? Will mama try to kill her due to her weakness and her subjecting the group to danger? Awe this breaks my heart!!!!

Hey, folks!!! 21,000+ posts behind, don't think a read-back is gonna happen...

A little bird told me folks were worried about me not being on the thread - sorry! I'm fine, just super busy with work (it's a busy time of year for my teaching responsibilities, etc.), and while I've really missed it, I had to admit to myself that I was having a hard time regulating my BYC time, so I sort of went cold turkey for a while (though I occasionally pop on the Poultry Shaming thread for fun). I was actually thinking about the thread this morning - Sally, I'm baking bread! (Then I'm roasting a turkey...)

So, hmmmm... what has happened with me while I've been away? (Other than boring day to day stuff.)

One of the three German New Hampshire pullets (Blanche) has been convincingly mounting one of the little cream legbar girls as an act of dominance - I've heard of that happening, but first time I've seen it. Bea (a second German New Hampshire pullet) keeps insisting on trying to sleep in a tree near their coop - I have to pull her out of the tree at dusk when she does (see photo below). My friend's husband says it's because the New Hampshire state motto is "Live Free or Die".

I've found that keeping them with their group is better than isolation if you can keep them in a somewhat confined area. I put one of my weaker babies that I had to help hatch with my broody that hatched 2 of her own. It is doing well and she treats it like the others. Maybe it got shaken up and that's why it's off balance?? I would say just keep an eye on it. Try not to let it do too much. I always think " if I was hurt I wouldn't want to be all alone but I would just want to rest." Hope it heals quick!!!

. I can bring her in. I've done it before. I used a cat carrier. Sanitized of course. And covered up a heating pad with pine chips. Had food and water inside. Would that work? For how long before I can hopefully reunite her with her family?
