Hello my amazing people of BYC, We are as of today, incubating our first batch of chicks! And with a first time, you have your freak outs. So These are some questions I have.

1. I am using the "Cheap Chinese 48 Egg Incubator", bought a second thermometer to adjust the heat accordingly.

2.The temp is staying at a firm 99.7-99.9 F

3. I'm picking up a new hydrometer in the morning (The one on the device says 57% But I don't quite trust that) Lots of condensation on the walls.

4. Picked up 12 fertile eggs, mix of Amuricana, RIR, Leghorns and special black.(Had a bit of dirt/poop on some so I took a damp rag and gently wiped off the dirty spots.

5.Auto-Turner Works!

Time to wait out the longest 21 days of my life. Please comment if I did anything wrong or right. Thanks a ton.

Hi Max
welcome to the crazy world of incubating eggs!! It is nervewracking, exhausting, exciting, lots of fun, oh and did I mention nerve wracking?!?!

I am using 6 of the cheap Chinese 48 egg incubators, have been for about 6 months now. Other than keep an eye on the auto turner so that it does keep on turning, and double checking your temps/humidity (as you are already doing), they really don't need too much help along the way.
Condensation on the walls sounds like the humidity is way too high to me. Only that high when in lockdown. I keep mine down around 30-40% for days 1-18 and all works pretty well.

enjoy!

Cheers Cate
