Incubation problem. Only duck eggs.

I had a lot of problems with bacteria and drowning with my last batch of ducks. I suggest cleaning out the incubator thoroughly that you are using, and maybe sanitize the hatching eggs if they are obviously dirty. If its not bacteria maybe the breeder stock has a deficiency? Other than that im stumped!

ASOLUTELY NOT, you do NOT want to sanitize the eggs if they are dirty, don't even touch them, take a paper towel that is dry and just wipe the eggs but never ever get them wet.

As far as bacteria, some bleach, rinse really well, I use OXINE, so if you have that that would be the best but is not bleach, then soap and water then let it set out in the sun.. this should help with bacteria.

OK, how do I take the gooy stuff out of the equation? Is that a humidity issue?

There is a way to get the gooy stuff out but it's very tricky and can be done three days before hatching. Someone actually has been successful, Although lots will tell you to just hope they get out because at that point there's not much you can do, However, me and another member have been trying some Experiments and with her method and MINE, she was able to successfully get the little stinker to escape from the shell.

I can try that, but I will have to wait a bit. Have a bunch of eggs yet.

I'm stumped too. Ugh. The eggs in question have sat outside for a week. The owners wait for broodies, but numerous geese, turkeys and other ducks have hatched from the same people. I could understand lower hatch rates from older eggs but these simply quit.

Are you misting them??

Yes on the fan. 2 fans.

I haven't misted any eggs. I haven't weighed anything either. Just kind of playing the humidity by judging air cells. 30% works great for me, except these darn call eggs.

OK, you should mist them at least once or twice a day, I actually mist mine about three or four times a week, it helps with the GOOY stuff..

Thank you very much. I will definitely try that on the next set.

I wouldn't have believed it worked because on my Site I hatched out SASSY with NO misting but then my last batch after her, gooy, so I started misting again, so far it's working. I think it's all based on the time of year.. In the winter time, they probably don't need misting but the summer time when humidity is UP. Mist them...

So misting actually helps pull moisture from inside the egg?
