Incubation progress of Muscovy eggs

The reason 4-8 took so LONG is because they were STICKY, the humidity at one point hit 80-85 causing this. So we lowered the humidity to try and get them to lose some of that water while they were inside the shell So that when we opened them, BOOM they were able to spend there Time absorbing there yolks and had less work with absorbing the moisture. That's why they Blew Up so quickly.. Because at that time, all they needed to do was concentrate on absorbing there yolks..

NOW TECHNICALLY, we should have Lost 4-8 so we were ABSOLUTELY LUCKY... to get out what we got.

Even though Ducks are water Fowl you would think They could handle the High humidity and Lots of water. Well They can't, they haven't fully used there lungs properly at that stage.

Now egg nine is one day Late, as Kathy said, "he probably needed that extra day because the temp was to low. SO she's ON THE MONEY THERE.

Number ten is ON time because we Raised that Temp Just in time to get him on the CORRECT schedule. GOOD JOB KATHY!! WOOO HOOO.

Now that we have them back on Schedule we need to know what that Humidity is so that we can Raise it and have a "normal" hatching from here on.

This is really helpful to me! I need to UNDERSTAND things to move forward, and to think and extrapolate! See? Now I GET why it matters, where before, I was just like a little puppet doing what everyone told me, but no idea why! Sounds like if the ducks are sticky, which can be caused by humidity being too high, they have to "waste their time" absorbing some of tha water when what they really need to be concentrating on is absorbing the yolk, right? So with humidity too high, we are making them work extra hard - doing two jobs when they really don't need to and shouldn't have to, right? Makes sense to me!

SO...9 is definitely zipping. She seems to be resting right now, but the "crack" has moved to a line, so she is zipping around the shell, for sure!

Alcatraz (10) has made a little progress - not a lot. Seems like the "crack" is a little bigger now, and little pieces of the membrane have tiny little holes in them.

The humidity - because we are sitting here monitoring it literally minute by minute - has stayed mostly between 50-65%.

Skippy and Tulip will be having company by tomorrow hopefully.

YES, they need to concentrate on absorbing yolk not water.. YES, with the humidity to high, they have extra work ahead of them, USUALLY they give up before they can get to the yolk.. That is why we are sooo grateful to even have save any of them. They should have technically giving up. That's to stressful and to much for them to handle.. So we were absolutely Lucky..

Number nine right now is in SAFE ZONE... her yolk is absorbed and she wants to come out an play..

Number 10 will need help but lets give him more time..

65 is about where you want it at this point. Once they get out, it should Increase but nothing to stress over. A glass of water with a sponge in it, is what I do in my incubators for humidity, because then you can decrease the amount of water in the cup if it's to high..

Sticky can also restrict their ability to breathe properly.

That makes sense, too - which is why I was cleaning out the nostrils and mouth, right?  Like having a really stuffy nose you can't breath from...

That and worse... The thickness of it around their body could mean less room for their lungs to expand.
