Incubation progress of Muscovy eggs

Lacrystol, both of those guys are now out!!

And no, that one didn't pip on the wrong end. It had just pipped toward the floor of the incubator rather than upward. Kathy told me to flip him over, so I gave it a 180 degree turn. This morning when I checked, his beak was farther out and wiggling around in the hole while he was chirping in distress. I decided to go with my gut and start cutting him open little by little, and as soon as I removed the cap he pushed right out. He was completely ready to come out with everything absorbed, but was just too big to make his own way out.


So, my current count is 3/6 survived, 1/6 died during zipping, and 2/6 still in the incubator. One of those two external pipped just this morning. I'm hoping this little guy will make it too.

Good deal, I have had a few do that and they still manage to get out on there own, the only reason to flip them really is to watch them. LOL

But good deal on helping him a little.

IF they are musky's try spraying those eggs. with this weird weather being soo hot and them prone to dehydration, Spraying them just before they are ready to come out, HELPS big time.

This isn't really about eggs and incubation, but I'd like to get some input from some fellow muscovy enthusiasts:

For some reason, the three ducklings that have hatched get very startled by me, especially when I hover over the brooder. In general, it doesn't seem like they are as imprinted on me as as my previous 2 muscovy ducklings were, who followed me everywhere and screeched loudly whenever they lost sight of me. These guys don't like to be picked up by me, and when I place them outside they barely follow me, unless I whistle (they are attracted to my whistling because I have whistled to them ever since they hatched), and even then they are very cautious. I don't understand why, since the first thing they all saw was me and I have spent a good amount of time with them ever since they hatched. Is it possible that they have imprinted on each other rather than me? Is there some other explanation? Is it too late for them to imprint on me?

I'm very curious to see the response to this as Pip, the single Scovy I hatched has seemingly imprinted on me but she gets startled by me too. I thought that was odd also.
Screeches if I get out of her sight or leave her with my partner and follows me everywhere. She lives in a brooder in the lounge since she's not quite four weeks old and even though she's been handled a LOT she doesn't like to be picked up but once she's up is a massive cuddle bum.
I thought it might have been simply that Muscovy don't like to be picked up because even though her body and feet are supported, because she can't see ground or anything solid in front of her she panicks.
The being startled thing I can't see a logical answer too though. Pip, like your little ones Muscovyslover, seems to get most startled if I lean into the bator and gets terribly territorial when I use tissues to pick up her poos in thier. Bites the tissues and my fingers but is super loving when she's with me. I wondered if the being startled is maybe because she can't see me coming through the brooder walls?

Sounds like calls to me. LOL, My calls will do the same thing, they look at me like I'm the enemy and it only gets worst once they go outside and get FREEDOM.. LOL

With these guys, even when I put my finger in the brooder the scamper away. With my previous two muscovies, they never passed the opportunity to nibble on my fingers whenever they had the chance.

And these definitely can't be anything other than muscovies.


EDIT: oh btw, the last two eggs hatched about 30 minutes ago!!! I have my hands full with 5 little ducklings now

I have exactly the same problem and can't wait to see what the general consensus on it is.
