1/4 of the way unzipped at 6am...yay!
IS HE OUT YET?????1/4 of the way unzipped at 6am...yay!
So sorry!Must have unzipped around noon. He'd drug a long stringer of what looked like half-cooked scrambled egg through the incubator before it broke off. His umbilical was swollen and sticking way out-I cleaned him off and put iodine on the umbilical. He made it till this evening when he started flailing around, would get stuck upside down and would just lay there, then flail a bit till he'd get on his side, then would roll back over on his back till someone would set him upright again. Went to put the kids to bed, came back and he'd passed.
So...what could have happened??
OH NO!!! dang, I wonder what the belly button looked like, sounds like some sort of infection..Must have unzipped around noon. I should have taken a picture. It looked kinda like the one Kathy posted a few pages back, but smooth and pink rather than scabbed over. By the end of the day half of it had gone down and it looked like it would close fine. He just always seemed to be flailing about, like he was running from something. The only time he was still was after he'd get stuck on his back and exhaust himself trying to get up. It was just odd behavior. *sigh* trying to find a duckling about the same age to give Pip some company but so far everything is much older and bigger.
What device do you recommend for temperature and humidity readings? I've got the incubator all set up for a second batch-three thermometers in it and none say the same thing (101.5, 99, and 98). I was thinking this time around of trying a dry hatch.
What day do you get them ready for hatch?
I rescued some eggs from under a duck and I did write down the day that I think she started setting on them.... but could be off by a day or so.
I'm going to be out of town on what I think is day 31-32 overnight (leave Thursday morning, get back Friday evening).
My husband is pretty tech savvy..... I kind of think I need to have him set up a webcam for us to watch the eggs while out of town. LOL.
But really.... this is my first time hatching them.... what do I do?!
For what it's worth, I'm on day 19 now, so I have a little time.
