Ok, I need the incubation recipe so to speak. I have my homemade forced air bator made and we are currently getting aquainted. I figure in about a year, I'll learn how to regulate it.

I had it running perfectly yesterday at 99.5 deg and 47% humidity. Then this morning it was running at right on 100 deg. can't remember the humidity, but I added water and everything when haywire. But I'm learning. So what I'm looking for is where I need the temp and humidity it needs to be through the first 18 days right? Then what does it need to go to? I know it goes higher .

So is it 99.5 deg at 50-55% humidity for the first 18 days?
Then what?

Not that I'll need this info anytime soon, got outbid on my eggs

But I might as well work on keeping it where it should be and learning what I need to change to up it in the end.

TIA

You got it - temps stay steady 99.5 in the water wiggler the whole way through.

Day 18 you stop turning the eggs and up the humitidy to 75-80% to help keep the membranes moist for the hatch.

Good luck!

BTW... I bet if you post in the sale/wanted section for 'bargain' eggs you'd find someone willing to sell you some at a reasonable price to test out your bator! Of course if you want a particular variety that might not work, but keep checking as many BYC'rs post for sale eggs.

This time of year, the selection won't be so great anyway...

Yeah I posted, but I kinda need pure bred chickens so they will sell better, especially the roosters. I'm not really too picky either just plain old run of the mill layers. And really only need about 6. Not real picky about the breed but would rather not have turkens

But I've had no replies. So I'm looking at just getting some mixed ones.

I can't keep these, assuming they live

But I guess I can always give them away. I'm gearing up for some Blue Orps you know

OK excuse me for high jacking the thread for a minute but you are on the topic at least I have a LG still air with auto turner (their new and improved does not have the basket just the cups) the acurite inside water weasel is 91.9 in 94.5 out and I am working on the humity only 30% right now however the therm that came with turner on plastic sitting on top of turner is 99. With temp should be 99.5?

Inside your water weasel should be 99.5-100 with forced air, 102 with still air, degrees so you have a way to go before it's high enough. The thermo that comes with the bators is usually not very accurate. I'd sooner believe the AcuRite probe.

The water weasel with the probe inside should be the 99.5 degrees.

If it is a still air, the air temp should be 102. Forced air is 100 or 99.5 depending on what you read.

Others may have alternate views I'm by no means an expert!

OK a few more ?s for ya'll

Do I use the in or out temp I am using a probe in water weasel and I think the out would be the probe?

Also where should I put the water weasel at the side even with bottom of eggs

or just not put 3 eggs in there and put it on the turner?

and any additional information that anyone may be able to give to me I just don't want to mess this up I am getting ready to make a chart so I can chart the temp and hum. during this first try and have wrangled the other adults in this house to help keep track.

You should put it on the out position, which is for the probe. The "in" position is the actual temperature of the thermometer housings' environment..Perry:D
